Who here doesn't like the dentist? I know people who don't like the dentist at all. Or either the dentist scares them..kind of like clowns I guess? I dont know. They can be scary since that one movie I saw where he screws with his patients teeth. It didn't scare me but just for a split second that those tools can do that. It was just a movie though so it doesn't matter . So who here has a little fear of the person who makes people's teeth purdy purdy?

(At my last dentist they messed up a perfectly good filling and some of that tooth crumbled or something. They scraped at it too much and put a crown on it. A gold one. )

I had an exposure opperation done once.

One of my teeth wasn't slotting into place right when I was younger, and still losing teeth.

It was so bad that the gum had to be cut away and exposed. Then after a week, the protective patch that sealed the tooth away after surgery was taken out (without anesthetic), and a head fitted to the tooth which was then attached to my braces.

It was pulled into place manually over a year.

It was the most painful process in my life, ever

Anyone that does, fully that is, is insane...

I'm not saying my are perfect or horrid...far from it...good clean record (near perfect, one filling)...my teeth are insanely straight (blame that on decade-long braces) and aside from that...not a lot else...it's just it's extremely nerve-racking when there's metal going in my mouth that feels like it shouldn't be there.

Aside from that, six teeth being out by them...tell you what...if you ever wanna see something funny...get me when I've gone under for one of those...hoooo boy.

I hate going to the dentists because it's always a guilt trip about how I don't floss much. And yet I've never had a cavity.

I don't hate the dentist...

I'm not in pain at the dentist...

But when I have to get 9 cavities done at the dentist in the span of 3 weeks...

I don't mind the dentist, or the doctor for that matter.

Several years of frequent visits to an orthodontist must've gotten me used to it. Sure, it's a little uncomfortable having somebody's fingers in your mouth, but I'm used to it, it's not painful or anything. And my teeth are in good condition.

What I AM worried about is the soreness at the back of my mouth... I think I may have Wisdom Teeth coming through....

Owwie.. that sounds veeeeery painful Kasumi. The worst thing I had done was getting a big tooth pulled..now I'm toothless in that spot My most recent dentist said they would bridge it but she also said my wisdom teeth would come in. So why bridge it? I don't even know what exactly they do to you when the bridge it .

I really hate the dentist! They can bite me!

That stupid bitch with the scraper thingy who cleans my teeth goes underneath my gums and causes them to bleed. Then I watch the blood just flow through the tubie thingy when they stick that sucker thing in my mouth.

Than she looks at me and says,"You see the blood? That's not good..."

Well gee, maybe there wouldn't be any blood if you'd stop poking the shit out of me with that pick!! Grrr.....

*Is annoyed*
Oh hey I got a piece of corn stuck in my teeth, let me get it out with a STEAK KNIFE!!!

If your gums bleed when the dentist cleans them, then you haven't been taking good enough care of your teeth. I know, because I get told off too, but my dentist takes the time to explain it a little better than "see the blood, that's not good". Healthy gums don't bleed easily at all. Mine bleed a little though, because I have a tender spot that I avoid when I brush because it hurts, and the dentist tells me I need to brush that bit better; but I... don't.. cause it hurts.

I gotta remember to keep brushing my gums. You're meant to actually massage your gums with the brush a little, and I don't like doing it much, so I don't do it enough....

Some are simply after your money, that's true, but thankfully I've never encountered one like that. Admittedly, I thought a little that way when I was told I needed braces, but looking back at things, my mouth WAS dangerously overcrowded and my teeth were quite badly crooked, and I think in the end it was better that I had braces.

And both the dentist and orthodontist have always known that my family and I have never had a lot of money (My father was sick all my life, a lot of our money went into paying his medical stuff, and with him not working, we were living purely on my mother's income) and they gave us exceptional pricing and stuff. Where my braces should've cost thousands and thousands, they did not...

Some dentists may be out there for money, but others genuinely care about the health of their customers and the needs of their customers and will help you. Mine does.

My dentist told me I have to floss my teeth until they bleed. Yah, it's painful, but if I don't do it then I have to get surgery done on my gums, which doesn't sound nice at all...

Also, the last time I went to the dentist, I mentioned that my family was mormon and let's just say the rest of the visit was exactly pleasent...

EDIT: fixed being reduntant

Yeah, you're meant to be pretty brutal with the flossing too. I don't do mine till they bleed, but I'm pretty thorough. I think my gums are relatively tough, except for one spot, which I mentioned... which I really should work on, despite it being a little tender.

Ideally you're meant to brush your teeth for five minutes every day, making sure to massage the gums with the brush as well as brushing the teeth themselves. I brush my tongue, but that's cause it gets rid of 70% of the bacteria that grows in your mouth while you sleep, so you don't HAVE to do that, it just helps with your breath.

Then you're meant to floss pretty thoroughly and finish it up with mouthwash!

Course, I wonder how many people don't brush at all, or only brush a little bit and not well. I HAD to be very good with my teeth when I had braces, and I still am pretty good with mine.

My teeth and gums are pretty healthy (except for that sore spot) and I don't have any fillings or other work on my teeth. The only thing out of the ordinary is a slightly sore spot on my gum where I had a cut once that is a bit weird still, and slight pain at the back of my mouth where Wisdom Teeth are coming through.

My Mum's REALLY good with her brushing, but she's almost TOO good... she's worn down some of the enamel on a few of her teeth with her over-vigilant brushing.

"see? because your gums are bleeding means that you're not brushing enough!"

"they are bleeding because you're stabbing me with that instrument you've got there."

Oooh... I'll save ya the money. Just gotta find a crowbar and the Jaws of Life.

I haven't had any problems... I take semi-good care of my teeth. Only two cavities, and one was a baby tooth. Don't floss, though... not too clear on the details.

Everyone hereare wusses and are scared of the dentist. It's not a big deal. They've drilled twice in me. I wasn't scared before, during, or after any of the occasions. That's not to say that it didn't hurt.

I used to never go to the dentist and only rarely brushed my teeth, so when I went in 1996 (I was 9 years old or so) I found out that I had eight cavities. I had to go to the dentist four times.

Since then, I've had no cavities.
