I was wondering about Icon files (*.ico). It isn't specified was is or isn't supported in edit profile and not covered at all in the faq. So can I use my icon or am I going to need to convert it to png...

PNG would work better ... I don't think .ico is meant to be used in image tags, even though it apparently works

Speaking of which, I forgot to upload favicon.ico here

I didn't think web browsers supported that file format as an image....

Yeah, you can upload an .ico file to display next to a URL in the address bar. For example, the cactus next to this URL or the green "C" next to Casa de Colleen's URL.

Well, I converted it to png, the transparent background does not exist, which is why it's white. Hope it looks nice.

--edit after neotransotaku's post--
no sense in making a new post about it. Converted it to gif after some thought. With that, I know how to make the background transparent. Thx for the input guys.

Please do, my bar looks ugly with that paper icon.

Anything works as Minipic. Thought I would use PNG, MNG or GIF.

I think I did early this morning, it's supposed to work but it hasn't showed up for me yet

And does any browser even support MNG yet? The only place I've ever seen MNG in action was Graal a few years ago, it used that for animated sprites (and PNG for non-animated) ...

Firefox was intended to have MNG, but it was too buggy, and was removed from the final release. Firebird 0.8 had support for MNG... that was the same browser before the name change and official release.

When I was using still Opera 6.0.5, there already was a plugin for that browser to show MNGs, since I installed it then
The format might be neat; just imagine the advantages from PNGs in animated image files; the ability to use an alpha-channel, semi-tranparency and an accordingly low file size
If MNG was more popular, I would rip my avatar new, setting up from PNGs instead of GIFs

Same here, it hadn't showed up in Firefox.

Where did you lay the icon file?

I tried to manuall find it by typing in http://board.acmlm.org/favicon.ico but nothing appeared.

It's in the "images" directory, linked by a <link rel=> tag in every board page ... apparently it's not working, because the .ico is really there

I'll move it to the board directory and see if that helps ...

When I surf around here, it's still that blank paper.
