So, it's official, Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of IKEA, is now the richest man in the world. Richer than Bill Gates.

As a special message to all you americans, I'd like to cite a tact-filled passage from Jim Carrey's exquisite masterpiece Ace Ventura:
Can you feel that? Can you feel it, Captain Compost?

Damn you did beat me.

I was going to post this yesterday after seeing it on the news, but I forgot.

Blame on the decline of the US dollar, that's an huge factor.

I can understand how IKEA is so succeful, most furnitures I have at home is from IKEA... the competitors' furniture are expensive.

interesting...i guess it was just a matter of time before such a thing happened? but anyways, Ikea's growth is just as controversal as Microsoft...or well, at least in some parts of the U.S. as there were some individuals who didn't want Ikea to put up shop in their city.

A few people were close to passing Bill Gates last year, but then he got a sudden 4 billion. Oh well, it was only a matter of time before someone really passed him.

Fact: Mr. Ikea lives in Lausanne and lives a very low standard live. Is not seen in Restaurants and such.

20Minutes says, that he gave it all away.

Who needs IKEA? I don't. I made my computer desk(yes, the one I'm using now) in 2001 from an old door and some scrap lumber left over from construction projects the previous year.

I remember when I was about 4 years old and drew weird city maps (putting random cities and other things at pretty random places, with roads going through them) ... well, once, I actually included "Ikea" there like if it was a city

That was over 15 years ago, but I really haven't heard much of Ikea during all that time ... Microsoft, however, is everywhere

But I guess it's about time someone finally beats Bill Gates ...

I read a follow-up that said the story wasn't true... he's up there, but he's not richer than Gates.

Then again you'd figure he'd have a tidy nestegg.

Warren Buffet will be the richest man in the world shortly

I find it funny that a crazed viking managed to get this rich. I guess the old Norse ways of plundering really did pay off.

tinzeee: A metric fuckload.

Rin: I think they've only actually had 'em on once. Forgot which ep, but it was this season. I think Fight Club probably did more for them than Queer Eye.

I saw a documentary on Ikea a while ago... pretty interesting, their whole backstory. Not much of a surprise that he'd be loaded. He does live a modest life, and he says his only indulgence is flowers.

They're building one nearby... they've been really committed to hiring people from the area, training them... they even advertised by setting up a room on the Green.
