| I think of myself as an upstanding citizen, and I like to yell that in people's faces wherever I go... this was only amplified when the board went down and I found myself hopping to every message board that people linked me to... not all were paradises (paradi?) I was on the "in" group here's private server for a while before I effectively got banned by the Mac-nazi admin running it for linking to a WMV file. And shit on by everyone else. That... was fun. Anyone have any unsavory experiences they'd like to share?  |

| um... invision power boards.. they suck in general. Why do you need a forum that holds three forums when each of those three forums holds another forum that only holds like 4 threads? I like AcmlmBoard system more. you got your category with your forums and the forums just contain threads, not sub-forums in sub-forums. | |||

| 90% of the EZ-boards i've seen umm.. cheatplanet.com's forums I like Gamefaq's because if you're looking for information on a game and it isn't in the FAQ sometimes you can find it in the forums (or you can post it and sometimes get a quick reply depending on the popularity of the game). | Depends on the forum in GameFAQs I think. LOTS of forums have a fair-sized population of morons, but some have a bunch of good users - or at the very least, users who are coherent and follow the rules. There's worse message boards out there in general. |

| Why I quit hanging out at DDR Freak: First off, I didn't like some of the policies and rule enforcement. You weren't ever allowed to bump things. You were also supposed to avoid reposting subjects that already had a thread, so basically, if nobody answered your question, you're screwed. A certain mod's style of moderation and knowledge (or lack thereof) of the legitimate use of ISO patches irritated the hell out of me. Someone asked for advice on patching an imported game so it would boot with their mod chip. The staffer in question snobbishly closed the thread and accused them of piracy, basically claiming that patches could never be legitimately used in this manner. From firsthand experience, I know that he was full of it. We have a PS One with an old four-wire mod chip that will boot copies but not original imported games (the region check was changed in that console, so the old chips can't override it). I learned this when I imported Um Jammer Lammy and our PS One wouldn't boot it. After I patched the ISO using a region fix utility, the game worked just fine and dandy. On a board devoted to a series of games that many people import, staff should not have an incomplete knowledge of the methodology required to run imported games, and they certainly shouldn't get on their fucking high horses and proclaim to know better than the board member if they come across a situation that they've never heard of. I also got an unfriendly vibe from the board environment itself. I didn't like how people would go around wailing "I can only do four catas! I SUCK!" If you're a newbie who is proud of yourself for finally passing Afronova Basic and looking around for some help to get to the next level, how is that going to make you feel? I also saw rude remarks thrown at people who happen to like overplayed songs or want to learn common freestyle moves, and the mods seemed to ignore this (and even encourage it). Now, recommending that people choose fresher songs and dance moves for competition is fine, but directing insults and outright hate to others for an offense as trivial as liking "Dynamite Rave" is childish and immature behavior that helps no one and leads to flame wars, and I was annoyed that the board management didn't seem to have any kind of problem with it. To be fair, there were some good people on the boards. A while back, I made a thread for advice on getting beyond the sticking points I'd run up against while improving, and it attracted lots of friendly, interesting, and helpful discussion. Also, I haven't read the boards in-depth in over two years, so they might have gotten friendlier. One of my friends goes there and seems to enjoy it. It would be great if that elitist feel had gone away. I might venture back when I get into regular DDR practice again. |

| I just went to Tikal's board to see how it was. It's terrible. It looks like some place all the banned members would go, and I saw anti-Anya pictures. And Manda is an admin there...or someone with the name Manda...I don't know. That board was terrible. Also, GameFAQ's Fire Emblem Social Board is terrible too. Anybody remember Nesshelper from the old Acmlm's board? After he got banned, he left Acmlm's and went to another board. Eventually, he left because of a dispute with two respected members of that board. He started going to GameFAQs' Fire Emblem General Board. Seeing that there were several issues, such as the claim that a certain character is terrible because of her fear of men, he began writing all these petitions demanding a split in GameFAQ's Fire Emblem General Board to get rid of all the bashing and spamming. After a month or so of being flamed he won, but the result was disasterous. One forum had relative order while the other forum began filling with spam, such as fads and people posting topics every minute as a countdown to some biology test (the Social was the one with this). Angry that the forum whose existance was a result of his doing, he began marking all the messages there for moderation. The Social Board people stopped all their fads and began attacking the General Board. Those people were banned (or at least a few of them) and Nesshelper eventually gave up (or I think he did) and I haven't been at the board enough to know what its current conditions are. I think the conditions are better now since Nesshelper doesn't IM me telling me to mark all the messages at GameFAQs anymore. So, GameFAQ's Fire Emblem Social Board is what I'll have to say is the worst (I've never been to LUE). There are better boards at GameFAQs. There's the Rayman Advance board, which is pretty much dead, and the Fire Emblem 6 board...which is also pretty much dead. That just shows that the larger and more active a message board is, the more chaotic it will be. Oh, I forgot, I heard that Flecko's (known as "!" at the old Acmlm's Board) Board was pretty bad. I went there once. I saw a topic saying "New picture! (Not swastica)" and I figured that just by seeing that title, I had enough. Flecko told me it was very chaotic at his board. He said there were too many people who showed lack of comprehension of anything. He said he even has a list of usernames that he can click on to ban them. I heard he's doing better now though. |
