I got it. It's 108 with a square root sign over it.

Because the abacus is Chinese, dumbfuck.

This is starting to sound like one of those religious debates...("Prove that god doesn't exist." "No, prove that god DOES exist!" etc.)

I know. I'm just too lazy to absolutely prove this kid wrong.

Either way, the Greeks rocked at technology. They also theoretically created the first steam engine...How is that for cool?

They could've had an automated deathray carrying train. Assuming they used their primitive computer, built the steam engine and then set up the mirrors on it!

If technology wasn't lost, by now we would be either (1) colonizing other planets, or (2) dead because of war or environmental collapse.

An interesting side note: During the second World War a Jew in a Nazi concentration camp invented a mechanical handheld calculator that could indeed do square roots. It had more computing power than the computers a decade later had. In return for the calculator he was to be made an

What the hell?

China and Greece didn't make any contact...AT ALL until the Helinistic age. And even then, it was mostly through seeing each other in Western India, which was very unlikely.

Interestingly enough, it was the Silk Road that the Romans had built 100 years after their conquest of Greece that bolstered European-Asian trade. Eventually, the abacuse was brought to Europe.

On Stargate SG-1 they give an answer to this in the form of a race called the Aschen. They are more advanced than us because they had no dark age.

Apophis, that sounds kind of cool...

I remember reading somewhere that if there wasn't an American revolution, we would be 40 years ahead of where we are right now, in terms of technology.
