| Anybody remember that baseball game Extra Innings from the early days of the SNES? Goofy-looking anime-like players, erudite player names, and a quirky atmosphere, but really good game play! I'm working on hacking the sequel, "Hakunetsu Pro Baseball - Ganba League '93". I started it as a translation, but since people in Japan's major leagues in 1993 might not be so interesting to people nowadays, I took a page from the original game's book and added real people from other fields of human endeavor. | If any of you guys have played my other baseball hacks -- as with Baseball Stars Alternative and Baseball Simulator 2, it's possible to figure out who every player is. (Either real historical personages, or fictional characters.) Each team has its own theme, as some teams in the original Extra Innings do. Since I had 8x16 and 16x16 fonts to work with, I made some "3 letters in 2 spaces" characters, plus single characters for "van", "de", "da", and "ibn". These things are really growing on me.  |

More (but less exciting) screenshots are ready: I really like the way they did the grass/turf in that upper left stadium. It really does look clean. | OK folks, ithe Extra Innings / Ganba League sequel just about ready for release! Geocities makes me zip my IPS files before uploading them, so be ready to unzip: http://geocities.yahoo.com/heiankyo794/GanbaLeague2patch.zip ...the original rom is called: Hakunetsu Professional Baseball '93, possible followed by (J), though there's no version other than the Japanese. "Professional" might also be "Pro"; my ROM is "Professional". This ROM can be hard to find, so if you can't get it anywhere, send me a PM and I'll point you in the right direction. As I might have mentioned, I'm not in the same league as you ASM masters, and this game, appeal-wise, is 90% translation and 10% hack. Or, put another way, I've translated 100% of the game into English, but only hacked the player data, names, and some of the graphics. If you've played the first Extra Innings, you'll already know how to play this; the feel is the same. This time the game action is in Mode 7, which is nice, though the camera needs to pan out to the outfield a fraction of a second sooner on base hits there. There are two "secret" teams that you get access to if you win a pennant. One is very powerful (and in honor of the recent Revenge of the Sith, I've named them for Star Wars characters), and another, which I've named for US presidents -- many of whom are known for being very powerful but also for bumbling at times -- is... well... a challenge to either beat or win with. You'll enjoy those guys. If you can't be bothered to play a whole season (though you should since a season can be as short as 5 games), I've prepared a save file which contains them here:http://geocities.yahoo.com/heiankyo794/GanbaLeague2save.zip There's still lots more I would so with this game if I had some assembly skills, such as adding more complete box scores after the games and such. But it's certainly playable as is, and is more fun than boring old Japanese major league teams. The more players you can identify, the better!
