Final Fantasy Legend are actually SaGa games if you want to get technical. They were just renamed "Final Fantasy Legend" when they came stateside. They're not like the rest of the FF games (since they're from a different series entirely) Likewise, Final Fantasy Adventure isn't even an RPG. It's more like an adventure game (more like Zelda). Final Fantasy Adventure was actually "Seiken Densetsu". You may know Seiken Densetsu 2 as "Secret of Mana" -- which was the sequel. SD2 was a very good game. SD3 was even better (for SNES) -- and is highly recommended. I wish I could recommend SD1/FFAdventure.. .but I just freaking hate Gameboy. Final Fantasy Tactics (both PSX game and Advance game -- although the PSX game was MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better) flow in a completely different vein from the rest of the series. As the name suggests they're more like tactical battle games than RPGs. FFT for the PSX is quite possibly one of the best PSX games in existence -- with probably the best soundtrack I've ever heard in my life. FFTA was a severe disappointment and I wouldn't even bother with it. Scatterheart left out Final Fantasy Origins for PSX (which had remakes of FF1 and FF2) -- although I still recommend the NES versions -- or at least the NES version of FF1. FF1 had a port to the MSX as well. Plus FF1, 2, and 4 has versions for the WSC (not very popular handheld system never released stateside) To avoid possible confusion: Final Fantasy 4 had both an easy and hard version -- Hard version is recommended, as it has more items, more character abilities, etc. Easy version is very easy. Also, when released in the states it was renamed "Final Fantasy 2" -- so the SNES FF2 and the NES FF2 are different. The SNES FF2 is actually FF4 (closer to the easy version). FF4j hard-type for SNES is recommended over all other versions. Final Fantasy 6 was changed to "Final Fantasy 3" when released stateside -- so the SNES FF3 is really FF6. I don't believe the J and US versions are much different. |

Originally posted by Disch I agree, but it should also be noted that the PSX versions of these two games are many, many times superior to the horrid GBA versions, the most disappointing games (well, game, they're on one cart) I've ever played. Stay far away. FF4 for PSX is the hard version, isn't it? Also, FFXI is also out on PS2 (maybe not in US... meh, I don't know. I don't like online RPGs anyway), and I believe Crystal Chronicles for the DS will be a different game than the GC original (which was a bad game. Boo. Stay away from that one too.) |

Final Fantasy 8 was also available for PC. And I did mention that FF1 and 2 were for GBA, meaning Origins. I played FF Tactics Advance before I played the PSX version, and couldn't get into it. I didn't like the way the character's turns were based on. I'd much rather each teams has their turn before the other team's. **EDIT** Sorry, I never knew that there was a PSX version of Origins. FF1 had a port to the MSX as well. ...I *never* knew that. Need to check that out just to see if there's any differences... (Then again, the MSX ended up getting Metal Gear 2 as an exclusive so nothing really surprises me with that system.) If you want to play Final Fantasy Adventure, you have two choices - Gameboy (and there's nothing terribly wrong with that version) or the enhanced GBA port/revision/remake that was released entitled Sword of Mana, which isn't that bad. |

Originally posted by Scatterheart Wait, any RPG made by Square is great??? Boy, are you in for a surprise. How about you recommend that paraplayer go and download "Square's Tom Sawyer", which, mind you, was a NES game released in Japan on 12/31/1989, and was never in the states... thank God. I can't give you the direct link to the SomethingAwful article, because it has a rom link to it. But I can tell you to go there, and I can tell you to Google "Square's Tom Sawyer" if you can't find it for whatever reason. Also, FF9 wasn't that great. But this whole business of "everything by Square is holy... er, great" is just plain bullshit, as is evident by their attempt to create a game based on the Mark Twain book. Originally posted by Scatterheart If you are going to recommend Secret of Mana, how can you forget Seiken Densetsu 3. If you are going to recommend Terranigma, how can you forget Soul Blazer? If you are going to recommend Lufia 2... ok, that game's awesome. If you are going to recommend SNES RPGs, how could you forget CT, SMRPG, along with Paladin's Quest, Ys series, Star Ocean, Breath of Fire series, Tales of Phantasia, Earthbound, Illusion of Gaia, Lufia & The Fortress of Doom, EVO Search of Eden, Arcana, Secret of the Stars, Bahamut Lagoon (if you don't mind strategy mixed in), DQ series, Live a Live.... are there any that are actually WORTH PLAYING for the SNES that I forgot? There, that should keep you going for a while, paraplayer. Oh, and Adamant, the GBA releases weren't THAT bad... if you are ever in doubt of this, just play Tom Sawyer If we are making a list of PSX games as well, then... um, that'll take too long |

Well, I never ownded Chrono Trigger, so it's no way near my favorite RPG. And I would never reccomend Soul Blazer, when it's more or less one of the more boring of the lot. I only played that when I had nothing else to play. I played and loved Secret of Mana so much, that 2 wasn't anything special. The battles of SoM were although easier, much better than SD3's. It annoyed me how you just run along through a field, then completely stop just to pull your weapons out. And about the Origins/Dawn of Souls thing... Sorry! I never really cared for 'em anyway... I got a whole lot of Square RPGs for PSX, that never got released outside of Japan... Some are hell-a-bad |

Well... Most of the SNES ones are teh kewlness! If not all of 'em I never liked FF1 or 2, 'cause I played all of Square's SNES games before 'em, so I was expecting alot more... But okay, I'll download Tom Sawyer, and give you a score based on how I like it. |

I don't know why, but I always liked Lufia I better than Lufia II. I think the music in Lufia I is livelier and cuter, I like the atmosphere in Lufia I better, and Lufia I actually has Lufia in it. BTW, in Japan the games are called "Estpolis," though I think "Estopolis" would have been a better way to write it. What does that name mean anyway? "-polis" I think means city.
