| Leg: That is, hands down, the DUMBEST argument I've ever heard. Government bonds have nothing to do with the national debt. It is more of a "Loan" that is eventually paid back with intrest. A loan TO the government, because the gov't needs the money so badly. Depending on intrest rates, it can pay well or you can get bit in the ass because of it (inflation winds up being higher than the intrest on a bond). It's hard for me to explain, but if anything, a surplus would create an immense amount of jobs, as the government would be able to spend money and MAKE IT BACK on other areas. Imagine it this way: You invest in one area, and make enough money to get a more expensive car. Well, the governemtn would be able to buy certian things in other areas with the surplus, giving people jobs to make that stuff, be it weapons, or better yet, HEALTHCARE (more doctors) and EDUCATION (better school systems, and government paid university study) |
