Are you ready for another Schwa hack? I've heard a lot of good comments from the screenshots, and my fans just wanted to play the hack so bad, so what did I do? I hurried up and FINISHED that hack!

Super Mario Bros. 3: CHAOS CONTROL is out. Every level and map is 100% changed, or "overhauled" as I call it. There is no ASM in this hack, but I changed the text and colors along with the levels, so... If this could be described in a word, it would be: "Schwa." Fitting?

So, here's the link! http://www.geocities.com/schwawarrior/SMBCC.zip

Be careful, I still have my beta-tester testing Worlds 6 through 8 World 8. If you find any bugs, any at all, PM me and I'm on it.

Here are some screenshots.

This is World 1, Murky Courtyard. Specializes in the basics.

World 2, Desert of 100 Duels. Specializes in Desert-type levels.

World 3, Magictrick Land. Specializes in a tricky overworld map.

World 4, Shadow Mountain. Specializes in Giant-type levels.

World 5, the Twin Midas Valleys. Specializes in travelling between 2 maps.

World 6, Ocean Paradise. Specializes in Ice-type levels with water in them.

World 7, The Uncharted Continent. Specializes in all types of challenges.

World 8, Onyx Stronghold. Specializes in Fortress-type levels.

Some of the screens may be a little outdated. Enjoy the game! Feel free to critisize me on anything about the hack, or praise me if you feel like it. Both are equally useful.

Oh, so you released it... And that beta-tester Schwa referred to is me, and I have to say: this is one of the best hacks I've ever played. Not only because it's finished, but also because it's so unique and impressive as it is. Oh, and the readme file is to be read; this hack actually has a story.

Schwa, you'll get a PM once I'm finished with the last worlds.

Wow, this is a nice hack at the screenshots. Everything is like...different. The only simularities is that World 2 is still a Desert, World 4 still has Giants, World 5 still requires to go up, World 6 is icy, World 7 is Piranha Craze, and World 8 is fortressy again. Still I am rather impressed with all of htem becuase the layout is 100% different, th elevels are too, but I know it's on the NES. Who cares, tho. Great hack, I'll try it out sometime.

Here's something to think about... Where's the Magic Whistle? It IS in the hack, but you'll probably never find it. Muhuhaha...

Spoiler:
Hint: Accessable from ANY of the first 6 Worlds, but NOT in any of the levels.

Why would I use the magic whistle? I want to explore every level, and use save states to save my progress, so I can come back to it. I'm at level 3 now. Great job, Schwa!

To all you folks... Not only did Googie (Myster Mask, I'll always know him as Googie) beta-test half of my hack, he did something REAL important a few years ago... He taught me how to hack text via Hex Editor. The letters Princess Peach sends you are a big part in what makes the hack special, and without him they'd still be the same boring old thing. So, Googie... Thanks yet again for teaching me that skill way back when-- It's come in reeeeal handy! Woo hoo!

WOW. I must say, just by looking at the screenshots, I am very impressed. The levels have a very professional, "official" look to them. The generous use of appropriate background scenery helps a lot. The palettes look very nice as well...nothing eye-searing or terribly out of place (the pastel combination in Magictrick Land really caught my eye). And there's TONS of variety in the level design and enemy placement.

I hardly ever download NES hacks, but this one looks too good to pass up. Nice job.

Very nice, there are good ideas inside this hack.
The difficulty level is just right - and the mini-castles/fortresses.
Then there's toyed with the rising/sinking levels - or that (even if short and not too hard) level with Big Bill who can swallow you even if you're big

I updated the hack to Version 1.1, with a few changes. There are less glitches and the title screen is different.

So is it too much of a stretch to call Schwa the top level designer on these boards right now? Well-made, challenging but in now way overly difficult.

I should've expected as much. After all, you were able to take MM4 and make it, you know, good.

TOP level designer? Wow, thanks! There's nothing to it, really, but you're born with it. I thinks it's my Aspurger's that makes me so good at level-design. No joke! We Aspies think in pictures.

But enough o' that...

Has anyone reached the World 7 Airship yet? If I have a favorite level, that's gotta be the one. You'll probably figure out why when you get to it...

OMG a fellow Aspie. Not to derail the thread, but have you read Luke Jackson's book (Freeks and Geeks)? Absolute must-read for ANYONE with AS.

Cool, I'm an Aspie too. I was diagnosed at age 13, and now I'm 21.

Schwa,

Something strange in world 6 happened. After I finished level 10 in that world, I went directly down to the harbor where a hammer bro was waiting. When I went to the hammer bro space, I was sent to level 10 again. I completed it and the hammer bro was destroyed, so I don't know what to make of it. Do you think it may be a glitch? Could you check it out?

Thanks.

EDIT: This is in version 1.1 btw.

EDIT 2: Dude, man, the hammer suit shop in level 6 keeps regenerating every time I go into a pipe. I don't know if that was intended, but I am reminded of Princess Toadstool's message telling me about that. I'm stocking up all but one row! That one row will have my tanuki suits kept.

To all: Anyone with AS is my brother. So, hello brothers!

To beneficii: NO, you dope! The Hammer Suit mushroom house isn't supposed to do that! Argh, taking advantage of a glitch is so... LOW. Yes, I'm going to fix that, thank you very much. And I'm going to fix that W6-10 Hammer Bro problem while I'm at it.
