Remember games like The Legend of Zelda and such where it told you to hold in the Reset button while you turn the power off or, and I quote, "OMFG YOUR GAME WILL BE DESTROYED!?

I never did and not once was my game erased. I also tried this little test by pushing the Power button on and off really quick a bunch of times. Same with the reset button. Nothing bad ever happened.

So why Nintendo, why?

You're also supposed to take breaks every 45 minutes to an hour while playing a game. Just precautionary measures, I would guess.

Yeah, like we ever did that. >D

The only time I ever got motion sickness from a game was playing Jedi Academy last year. It was about the 7th hour I had been playing it and there was this one level I was on that I could NOT find the next place to go. I wandered around for about 45 minutes and then the queezyness feeling hit me. It sucked. >8(

I did take a break after that though because I didn't wany my head to assplode.

There WAS a reason, but I of course forget what it is precisely. I do know it's not necessary with anything SNES or later, or on the top-loading NES (though I usually do it anyway out of habit).

Yeah, I remember this, and no I never did it either.

Thing is my old SNES had that issue where if you turned it off an on quickly, it WOULD erase files. Of course, I did this on accident (It only seemed to happen with Link to the Past actually, at least I have a 'nicer' SNES now).

OMG Legion! You are playing with fii-yar!!!

I think I used to hold reset and power off when I was little, then I got lazy, and found out not holding reset didn't do anything.

I got bad motion sickness from Metroid Prime.

I would keep the NES on overnight a lot, if I didn't want to lose my game or anything. When I started playing, I couldn't read, so I didn't know to hold in the reset. My NES broke when I was young, but when I got it fixed years later, I held in the reset button a few times. Then I decided that was stupid.
I've lost my Zelda II file from when I was little, but I can never remember if that's from my carelessness or if I just went and deleted it, being the annoying kid I am. I hated that game (Ganon ). My file on the first Zelda (well my mom's.. but I named it. Can you tell?), I took a picture of it about half a year ago.

That never died til my brother erased it recently.

LttP on my SNES erases too.. along with Super Mario World.

The only games I've ever had the erase files on their own are Illusion of Gaia, Kirby's Superstar, and Super Mario World. Everyone else kept their data for the 11 years I've had my SNES.

I like to live on the edge.

I haven't used my original Zelda carts in about 5 years, what with roms and the Gamecube versions I have and all. I'm too scared to actually check it because the battery should have died by now. I just don't want to face reality.

And I really don't have enough patience to actually swap out the battery.

I can't remember the reason off the top of my head either. I did it anyways because it wasn't a big inconvenience, but still. :\ Strangeness.

My FF2 cart refuses to write any data in the second save slot.

I just every savegame once in it's lifetime except on N64 and Dreamcast. (Damn JAP <> EU/US diferences in Cube Memorycards).

Game Boy games, about every one got lost once, be it in the laundry, ejected the game without turning the power of, Bung eXchanger, Pro Action Replay or just playin Batteries dieing during saving.

And I allways press the reset button on NES-Games with SRAM, only got three, Kirby, Wario and NES Open. But yeah, never lost a save on one of those.

Y'know, from time to time I did. But more often than holding in the reset button to turn off the power, I found out thats a nifty trick to get some games to work :o. For years, I found myself pushing the cart a little to the right, holding the reset button in, and turning on the poewr, and moving the cart around little by little, pressing reset/power/some weird combination with lettuce. but yeah. I never really did that for much gaming. I figured out one day it didn't matter so I just said fuck it. y'know. hey leg, go play some OoT or WW again >.>

It's funny you mention that actually, because a couple of weeks ago I started both again. WW frustrates me because of all the damn text. It took me a couple of hours to get to the first dungeon. (I don't count Forsaken Fortress as a dungeon) And then a long time after that to make it to the next one. I recently gave up trying to float across the water to get to that one place. It's now on my list of games I will never play again.

OoT is a little better though. Still a lot of text, but at least the dungeons take less time in between to get to. Working on Dodongo's Cavern right now.

But nothing beats the 2D ones and Nintendo seriously needs to revert back to it. Not going to happen, but I can dream.

Dodongo's Cavern? I actually have that place pretty much memorized. As for Wind Waker, you're supposed to learn a song on Dragon Roost that lets you control the winds, and once you do that it's not too bad trying to get to the second dungeon. Then again, the whole damn game is too easy, so I can't blame you for giving up.

Reset/power: I did when people were watching, because it wasn't my NES or my games and I didn't want to get yelled at or hear people ramble on about the importance of holding it in. =/ Of course, this laziness was added to since I never played games that I saved in. I sucked at Zelda back then (I was five) so I always played SMB3.

I only got motion sickness after playing Golden Eye for a really long time, but that was when I was a weak gamer. I can play Halo 2 for 3 days straight now!! *plays the air guitar*

And to "answer" the topic question, no Ive never listened to any of that. I play 2 inches away from the Tv for 10 hours at a time and when Im done I just pull the power plug out of the wall.

I almost always get eye-strain/migrain while playing Secret of Mana. Always at the same spot, too! Just outside of Shade's cave in the Lofty Mountains. Only happens if I play non-stop to that point, though.

My friend's Lufia II (PAL) loses it's data quite frequently, now. Once, he got frustrated, and switched the SNES on and off rapidly... Then it just died. Blew something, and it just wouldn't turn on anymore. No power going through any of it. So bad things can happen.

Jedi Academy games have ALWAYS made me motion sick, and JUST those games. It's so weird that it's just those titles. ;|

Legion reminds me that I actually should replay through Wind Waker and the other Zelda game. Hell, I hadn't finished Zelda, Zelda II and Four swords yet...

And oh, I can't recall when I got motion sickness from gaming. Really. Althought I can get headache from intense multiplayer games, but only if I played it for hours. Never when i'm alone for some reason.
