When the heavens cry and rainfall ensues, I walk aimlessly in the muteness of the downpour. Rain possesses something cleansing, it feels to me as if the world undergoes rebirth and renewal as the air fills with a soothing wetness. When thunder sounds and lightning flashes, I feel something primal stir within me, as if I am bearing witness to the begining of existence itself.

As I stand at the beach and stare out into the vastness of the ocean, I ponder my own insignificance in the grandness that is the universe. I think to myself how the waves and their beautiful sound have been rolling inward and outward since long before I was born, and how they will continue their dance, unfazed, long after I am gone.

I live my life by the night, I have a respect, an admiration for and an affinity towards the darkness, I feel at one with the coolness and calmness that is the eve. Upon nights when the moon is shining with particular brightness, I enjoy basking in it's glow. I sit with my legs tucked under my body, my hands folded in my lap and my face tilted towards the lunar shine. I can lose myself for hours in this tranced state, with my mind empty and my spirit full of serenity.

On nights of the new moon, when the sky is black as ink and even the stars hide behind the shade of the clouds, I build a communal fire and allow my very being to become consumed in an intense rapture. I tune myself in with the natural order, and become one with the planet. When the morn finally arrives and I prepare for slumber, I soak in the radiance of dawn as I sip at steaming black tea and listen to the animals rouse from their torpor.

These acts - basking and soaking, walking in the rain and by the beach - are, to me, what keep my spirit bound to my shell and my self grounded in reality, while simultaneously allowing my creativity to wander and my mind to entertain fantasy. I am curious as to your thoughts on the subject of nature and the self. Do you feel a kinship with the life of the world itself? Do otherwise mundane phenomena speak to you in ways no words ever could?

Please, share your experiences, your beliefs and your thoughts.
