Earlier this morning, our hero chats it up in irc...

(02:27:20) (+Legion) TORONTO - A Canadian province will shut its 24-hour suicide hotline and replace it with one that operates only during business hours.

PEI is stuck between a rock and a hard-place, but given that they have severe budgeting problems...This had to happen. Mind you, the program will probably be back in full swing after the Federal Budget is ratified and the Atlantic Accord is passed (given the Maritimes more money).

I've used the Canadian governments free mental health services many times, and I think that they are great. This is truly a sad instance though.

Oooooh, this might become a dual-thread. Just like that one time with the "Presidential Debate/Drag was banned" thread.

Anyway, at first glance it would seem that it's one of those "stupid news" stories but as it turns out, there really wasn't much they could do. And even though it's open during certain hours, hey, it's better than nothing.

Most kids who need help are at school during that time...That's the problem. I wish that they chose to have it from 4-12 or sometime more accessible to teens. Right now it might as well be nothing...Luckily, for PEI kids, their regional health services are picking up the slack and strengthening their counselling divisions. Harder to get to, yes. But far more comprehensive.

Well, isn't there somebody in Canada rich enough to give this place a grant so they could hire one or two more people to save a few lives? It seems that this wouldn't be hard to remedy.

Well, there has been a stand-still in our Parliament for a while now because of stupid politicians and stupid ambitions. Luckily, that is over now

There is a bill being passed called the Atlantic Accord that is giving additional monies to the maritime provinces for their ailing social programs. It is gained by giving them more direct access to industrial money generated via taxes. It is a complex system, and it generally requires a sympathetic and strong Parliament to work. Luckily, with the House of Commons back in action, they will fix this.

Additionally, this is, I believe, a provincial help-line. There are other government sponsored endeavours to aid people with problems. These include the Kid's Help Phone line. I cannot remember if they have it on PEI, though. I do remember they have a varian that in Newfoundland-Labrador. Additionally, there is regional health services that have comprehensive programs. They take a few days wait to get into, but they are amazing and good and thorough. More over, every large city hospital (therefore Charlottetowne) has a walk-in psychiatric ward. They have counsellors on rotating shifts, and they are generally helpful and doesn't require self-admission.

Our suicide hotline in florida is no use because the counselers are emo, and almost everyone prank calls them.

In unrelated news, suicide rates on Prince Edward Island skyrocket. Suicides have tripled with no indication as to why. The official spokeswoman of Canada's Department of Suicides speaks:

"We are unsure as of now why so many people are killing themselves. Their notes all say that they have an increasing feeling that nobody cares for them. We are unsure if the reasons triggering their individual suicides are connected or not. This is pending investigation.

Seriously, just the fact that suicidal people KNOW they're closing it more make them feel that less cared for and that more likely to take the plunge. Just remember...

Actually, I've been saying that for years. Maddox didn't invent that (but I'm sure I didn't either).

You should try it. Slit your jugular, then tell us how it turns out, mmkay?

Hmm, it's a nice service to have around, as I'm sure it'll save lives, though I don't think I'll be in need of it anytime soon.

In case you didn't notice, Maddox doesn't have an anti-hotlinking view. You know, freedom of speech, if it's on the internet it should be a free and available resource to all, etc. That's why he puts his copyright in each one of his images. If you think it's such a big deal, why don't you email him about it? I would love to see him publically rip you apart.

Erm, actually...

I love [insert-page-or-image-here], can I use it on my page?

If you want to use something on my site, please contact me and ask my permission first. Feel free to link any of the pages on my site, and my site itself on your own site. Please do not link the images directly.

Of course, I would assume that message board use would be a *tad* bit different than actual site use, but then again I doubt we're going to suck away all of Maddox's bandwidth to begin with.

But seriously, the only thing worse than a fanboy is a Maddox fanboy. We get it, you like him 'cause he's angry. Don't try to attack us thinking "oh if i do this, the great maddox himself will let me give him a bj". Honestly, I'm pretty sure he's not giving two shits about what Yiffy Kitten did.
