Yoshi switch block? what do you mean by that?

A block that will say, make green yoshi turn into blue yoshi upon passing it? If thats what you mean, then no block tool doesn't have a block that does that. It has one that does it to Mario/luigi however.

No, a block that appears only when mario has rode yoshi at least once, just like the switches in the switch block palaces.

yep: for example: Change the red switch block's act like setting to the yoshi question block, then alter it's graphic if you want. enjoy.

If you don't want to lose a switch block, you will need to redo a large part of the ASM to update a fifth block.

No, you change their states. Edit the filled-in switch block, then test it in-game. It WILL work. The reason that LM says they won't work by direct map16 is because it is in the object definition there is some scripting that decides which tile to display / act upon. Just try it.
