I'm curious to know if anyone around here meditates on any sort of regular basis. If so, what are your techniques and why do you do it?

I meditate to ease my mind and calm my emotions, to leave my body and roam with my mentality alone. What I do is visualize something. I visualize myself, in a way. It's hard to describe exactly howso. In a dream, you can sense things, and you often have a material body, but it's shape is indefinate. That is how I visualize myself. I envision my world, and I travel it freely, often through the air and seemlessly into and out of various bodies of water. If I had to paint or draw such a scene, I'd depict my "self" as a mass of vapor, distinct from clouds or other worldly phenomenon, and distinct from the environment, but at the same time, able to assimilate into it. While I coast through the air, I am wind. While moving through the water, I am liquid. This is the best I can describe it.

How about you?

I used to, but I stopped. Might go back to it soon, not sure.

Really, I just completely blanked out my mind, the reason I meditated was to get away from absolutely everything, and my thoughts where a big part of everything. So, I just kinda blanked out my mind, went for about five hours once, had no memory of what happened, if anything did.

I don't meditate regularly, but I do meditate.

I tend to do it when I'm particularly stressed.

I just tend to sorta... I'm not sure what it's called, I think it's "inner light" meditation. I watch swirly colors and light when I close my eyes.

I don't have the time to do serious meditating, however, I have researched Buddhism, and it sounds great. Guess I'll be starting.

I've done meditation in conjuction with Tai Chi Ch'uan (or just Tai Chi), and the movements are considered meditation in movement. But I also have done meditation as a way to increase my awareness around me. Things like just trying to wipe my mind of all conscious thought whatsoever, or trying to sense without seeing.

I do sort of.. but i do it kinda differnty...
When i need to escape my thoughts
and the world arround me... i put on some headphones
listten to music and just go for a walka and
i can hear anything but i concentrate on where everything
is with my fealings and my other sences....
not usualy sight, i can usualy tell where people are
without being able to see them...but i have to stop thinking
and thats why i use the headphone, when i close my eyes i see too much
to meny words and strange ideas that plage me sometimes like a nightmare durring the day... so i do this instead..
you can call it meditation in a sence

I do meditate when I'm being called names and such at school. At first glance it looks like I'm just in a big strop, but I'm actually blocking out all sounds and visuals and bad emotions, just letting my happiness flow through me. I feel much better and not like total scum then

During a religion lesson at my school, my class visited a little Buddhist temple.

They were very nice and we tried meditating there. Believe me or not but I felt like I was floating when I got it right. That calmness.

In light of windwanker and Fettster's comments, I'd like to note, in case it isn't clear, that when I say meditate I go by the dictionary definition. I don't mean something inherently religious or involved with ceremony, nor something that necessarily needs to be trained for or taught about. It seems like some of you are making that assumption; I just wanted to clarify.
