Who here has had surgery? And if you have, what have you had surgery for?

When I was little, I had surgery to put tubes or something in my ears (I don't remember much of this, I was too young).

This evening, I've been told I have a cyst on my right ovary, and that I'll likely need that surgically removed too.

So, I was wondering, who here has had surgery, and what did you have surgery for? Were you scared?

PS. This means I might be away from the board for a while.

I don't remember any times when I had surgery, but supposedly I did when I tripped over my dad's toolbox when I was very young.

Leave scissors inside her? What do you think this is, TV? Good luck with that though. Sucks to have to do that.

When I was around 2 years old, I had tubes put in my ears. Don't remember anythign about it.

Around 5 or so, they fell out. A year later I went in for surgery to have new ones. Not only did they put new tubes in, but they took my adenoids out (lumps in your nose that do absolutely nothing in this day and age ).

I still remember it. I was deathly scared to leave my parents. I was crying and crying and crying. When I got to the doctor's room, they reassured me by letting me choose the "flavor" of anesthesia. There was grape, strawberry, and I think apple. At the time, I was a grapeaholic, so I chose grape. I remember I had a very odd dream in which purple joker heads were swiring around at violent speeds and laughing at me. Pretty creepy, actually.

I woke up as they were taking me to my hospital room. They gave me chocolate pudding but it hurt to eat it. I managed, though.

When I got to my hospital room, my dad cheered me up major cuz he bought me the White Tiger Zord and Tor the Turtle (I was a Power Rangers freak back then ).

So yeah, that was my experience. I was really afraid at first, but got over it. As for the tubes in my ears, they feel out when I was around 10. I remember I lost one at a bowling alley (it just kinda fell out) and the other on a ski trip (We were in the lodge and a ball of earwax fell out of my ear. The tube was in the middle.).

When I was a little baby I had a surgery due to hernia. Of course, I don't remember anything of it, but according to my parents I cried a whole lot. I still have a mark of it on the lower part of the belly. It's not very visible, so it probably wouldn't be noticed until I point it out.

My ear drums have tiny little metal tubes that have been grafted to my skin. They're going to be there til' the day I die.

When I was a kid there was a complication when my tonsil's got removed. They had to relieve pressure by putting a small incision somewhere on my neck. I don't know what happened, but I turned out to be allergic to the anesthetic.

I also had both my gums opened up, my jaw dislocated (then subsequently relocated) and my pallete cut open so that extra teeth could be removed from my mouth.

I had to have a bit of surgery when I was 11 or 12 on my right hand. I cut it open very deep and the doctors had to remove what cut me surgically, simply pulling it out would have cut open whatever artery it is that's very near your wrist, and I would have been even more hurt. But I guess that's not so bad, just to remove and stitch up.

Heh, come to think of it, there was one thing. The usual thing they do to newborn males. Thing is, they never actually got permission... They sure as hell were lucky that was what my mom wanted anyway, and that she wasn't the kind who'd pretend otherwise and sue. Other than that, though, I don't believe I've had any major surgery (aside from dental work), but I have had a lot of scans and tests for various reasons... I managed to overload an EEG machine (brain wave scanner of some sort) once.

Taryn will be fine. I'm sure of it.

Surgery... the ONLY thing I can think of off the top of my head would be the wisdom teeth last week, although that's oral surgery so it might not count. :\

For me, I had my tonsils removed when I was younger. apparently it was emergency, because I wasn't breathing / was barely breathing when I woke my mom up, and she had to help me there, thank god she is a nurse!

You'll be just fine, Taryn, I look forward to seeing you in good health when you return.

As for my surgeries, I've had my wisdom teeth out, my tonsils & adenoids removed, and I think another oral surgery of some kind. Other than that, none I can remember.

I had surgery on my right leg. I had a benign bone tumor there. The technical term for it is osteochondroma. I was about 16 years old, a few week before my junior year in high school.

Anyway, the worst part of surgery isn't the actual surgery or even the recovery. It's the whole mess you have to go through leading up to it. Ugh, never want to go through that again.

I had it done in a childrens hospital in Seattle (West coast represent) and it marked the first time I ever played the N64. The only games they had was Mario 64 and Waveracer.

I think after waking up from surgery and eating food for the first time was the very last time I threw up not including alcohol related incidences.

Anyway, yeah, she'll be fine. Ovarian cyst removal is a very common procedure, that and she's young so I doubt she'll have any problems making a speedy recovery.

And yes, wisdom teeth removal counts as surgery. There's even a small chance you could die from it but an even greater chance you'll end up with sinus problems even if you've never had them before. That's why I'm never having mine removed unless they become a serious problem.

Well, I *am* fine people. They decided I'm not in enough pain yet to perform surgery, despite having a cyst with half a litre of fluid in it (wtf, where the hell does my body manage to hide a half a litre blob of fluid?! ). But they told me for 24 hours that I was going to have surgery, and then kinda... changed their minds and sent me home.

They made me fast for the whole thing And then sent me home and told me to monitor it.

Note: food after 25 hours of fasting = awesome.

So yeah, that leaves the following surgeries I've had (I asked Mum)

* tubes in my ears when I was five
* my tonsils removed when I was five
* my adenoids removed also when I was five.

I also spent a night in hospital when I was little cause Mum and Dad thought I ate one of my hair clips and was choking. I didn't eat the hairclip!

Glad everything is okay for now...but shouldn't they remove it ASAP? I mean, it is only going to get worse from here, isn't? So yeah, I'm a little confused as why they said to delay it--unless it is too small to remove?
