... Ah I see. But those were back in the old days when the games were popping out every 10 minutes. I've infact played some Barbie game on PS1 where you rollerskate around parks 'n stuff... You get to buy OMG kewl outfits!!! Now seriously, if you're trying to bring in a wider range of gamers, you'd make something that girls of all ages can appeal to. Nintendogs is one of 'em, which has sold many, many copies and has sky-rocketed the DS's sales. That's what I mean by "Nintendo are always trying something new." Nintendogs doesn't appeal to me at all, but sales figures show that there are plenty of other gamers-to-come who just aren't interested in what the companies offer at the moment. I for one think that almost all of the "Mature/Adult" games out there rely too much on graphics and gore, and don't focus on gameplay. You play a Gran Theft Auto game, and it gets old pretty quickly... God, I dunno! It's all about tastes... Stick with what you like. I like Nintendo, and that's just my opinion. That's all it's about. I'm not here to make enemies over gaming tastes... Seems knuck already hates my gutts. |

I personally say that Rare needs to get off their asses and make an honest effort (As opposed to simply rehashing the levels from the original game as they did about four times) at another Battletoads game. But that's just me. | |||

Can anyone come up with an idea that would make a good game that has NOT been done before? Well? Anyone? All the time that videogames have been out has removed a good number of viable ideas. Anymore, it's not so much a matter of if it's been done before as it is a matter of if it's been done better. (edited by Grey Jedi Cheveyo on 06-25-05 01:55 PM) |

(Cheveyo: I was going to make this post last night but then the banning stuff happened and everything. You beat me to one of my points though. ) Oh, where do I begin with this one. First off, congratulations on absolutely failing to grasp the point of my post. I said that SMB1 and SMB3 had similar gameplay (in terms of controls, general Mario physics, etc.) but were completely different games. Of course your three analogies are different; I wouldn't dispute that at all. Only an idiot would say that FF1 and FF10 were exactly the same. If a company can constantly rework a series from game to game and make each game feel different yet fun, then they're doing their job. Back in the mid 90's, the FPS PC market was hurting because for every original game that was released, there were four or five others released that either weren't very fun or just ripped off an existing engine. Secondly, just because you have an opinion doesn't mean that you have to shove it down people's throats and say "I'm right, you're wrong" and not move off your position even when facts are being presented to you. Then you've gone from being unrelenting to trolling. It's probably too much to ask you to change but I'm just throwing that out there just in case you actually see what I'm getting at. |

I don't understand when people say that a certain system only has a certain genre of games. While it's true some genres overshadow others, the same is true for Nintendo systems... Also, it's an exageration that XBox only has FPS or racing games... There are great RPG titles on it, generic fighting franchises, good platformers, sports games, etc.. I also don't understand why people care how many games are out for a (new) system. Mainly the DS or the PSP. A sensible person would only buy one, two, or maybe three games for a new system purchase. "I'm not gonna buy a PSP for just one puzzle game, but I am going to wait 6 months to see what else comes out, and then buy a PSP and the puzzle game." That seems to be the mood that comes from people that say they're not gonna buy something for just one or two games. Also, you rarely ever get -any- game without some sort of recommendation from someone or something. You aren't born knowing about Mario, or even Nintendo, gasp. Saying that Nintendo always comes out with "fresh" games that are "always fun to play" is untrue, for obvious reasons. I.E. Mario Parties 1-6 (soon 7). If you argue that each Mario Party -is- fun, then you like to waste money because there is hardly any difference between the different ones. In other words, I would not get an experience from Mario Party 6 that I wouldn't get from Mario Party 3. "Oh, and I finally found a half-decent game for my brother and his X-Box. It's called Forza Motorsport. Too bad it's basically a copy of Gran Turismo, which in fact was a copy of a Sega Master System game." Which is also a copy of real life racing and ricing... "You play a Gran Theft Auto game, and it gets old pretty quickly..." You play an oldschool Mario game, and all you do is jump and run, it gets old pretty quickly... durrhurr.. I'm not saying I'm anti-Nintendo, I just hate people using one-sided arguments to prove their points. And Nintendogs isn't something that hasn't been done before. It's a novelty, just like Tamagotchi was, and people are gonna say (especially the ones with real dogs), after it hits them: damn, I wasted 30 dollars to take care of a virtual dog. Maybe, I wouldn't know, I can't predict the future. |

As I said earlier, it's all down to tastes. I just find it hard to believe that so many "new age gamers" can enjoy so many FPSs and such... Just gotta get over it, huh? I said earlier that I didn't like Mario Party. The first one I enjoyed, but after that... Pokemon I also find repeatitive, and never really liked it anyway. There are many more RPGs which are way better than that stupid thing. Okay, so to put it in more appropriate words: Nintendo are trying to encourage a wider audience. It's already been successful with Nintendogs, but whether they can keep it up or not is yet to be seen. Never fear though, as they'll still have plenty of games for us "hardcore gamers" to keep us occupied So Nintendo do have shitty games, but it's less likely you'll find one than on the others... Mainly because of first party games. Thank god (or whoever) for being able to exchange the games within seven days with no reason required, ey? |

Originally posted by Grey Jedi CheveyoOriginally posted by knuckOh, give me a break, knuck. You hate damn near everything. Yes, actually I can, I've been thinking about for oh so long, that entire 3 minutes was easy. A full 3D fighter game that isn't stuck on a 2D area (most fighting games have it where you can sidestep but it goes back to 2D unless you sidestep). Make it four players too, no, make it online and be able to have 72 players in a game. Bam, instant game that would probably make hundreds of millions easily. Now, as for this whole argument, I still have not voted mind you, unless Nintendo's revolutionary thing is indeed revolutionary, they're dead in the water. No amount of Zeldas and Marios can save them, because as Knuck has pointed out, they've gotten old. After the original pokemon red, I could never bring myself to beat/play another one... They were just so boring. Oh yeah, Mario Party 1 kicked ass. Sony and Microsoft are good corperations, they do everything really well which is why they're at what they are today (filthy rich). Sadly, if Microsoft were to somehow lose Bungie to Nintendo or Sony, I could see a lot of people leaving. I could also say the same about Sony and Square Enix. Doesn't matter anyways, we all know any of us that wanna play games for the games will probably end up buying all three consoles. Edit = Bleh, fixed a few errors. Originally posted by Dracoon I wouldn't say they do everything well. Sony's product quality can sometimes be iffy, for example. Also, I don't think Microsoft is going to lose Bungie anytime soon, seeing as they own them. And yeah, I'll probably eventually end up with all 3 systems (again). |

Sony is wellknown for how durable their products aren't. Microsoft is just... well I wouldn't call them too good. Their OS isn't very impressing anymore after I seen the alternatives. I would argue that many of their products are overpriced and... the only area I would praise Microsoft for is their console. Nintendo trying to reach a new group of "gamers" seems intresting. I mean... The sims anyone? Hardcore gamers bash the hell out of it, but amongst non-gaming people it's a hit. Probably becuse how simple it is to get into, and how much freedom there is. But the lack of a "goal" makes most hardcore gamers to not like the game. Rare is just a shade of it's former self, like with the now dead westwood it's hardly have any old devolopers left. After three years I realised how smart move it was from Nintendo to sell Rare. (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 06-26-05 02:18 PM) |

If they didn't do things well, Microsoft and Sony that is, they would've been beaten out by Nintendo, or someone that supposedly can never fail. Nintendo had probably one of the biggest holds on the market ever, yet they blew it. No other company has ever done that, so don't go saying Nintendo's great and all that junk. Nintendo needs some good games, 3rd party support, and to think more openly. They can keep it just a game playing console, thats awesome, I'm glad they're adding internet access too, but they can go with both graphics and effiency easily. |

Originally posted by NSNickOriginally posted by Dracoon NSNick = Win. Yeah, Atari did have the "hold on the market"; that is, right about until they decided to make the game of ET. Then came the fabled "crash" of 1983. And who helped gaming pick itself back up? Nintendo. Seriously, Nintendo is only considered by many to be on its last legs because it ONLY makes games. As has been pointed out before, MS and Sony are both more than just gaming companies, but Nintendo doesn't have this facet. That being said, I'm rather disappointed that they haven't really been able to come up with a new series or two. |

Atari could have handled distribution of the NES, you know. There was interest and talks were ongoing, but then things fell apart, Atari decided to press forward with the 7800, and we all know what happened in the end. ET was just the clincher; Atari had made tons of mistakes leading up to it, such as making 12,000,000 copies of Pac-Man when there were 10,000,000 Atari 2600's on the market. The belief was that 2,000,000 more consoles would be sold as a result, and the end result was that they only sold 7,000,000 copies or so; Pac-Man SUCKED. Terrible port although later Pac-Man games were good and more faithful to the arcade version; still, if that gamble had paid off Atari might have been able to get through the E.T. incident. |

Even if the contract with Atari and Nintendo would have been signed, they would had it hard on the market.
