Doesn't that just reinforce Colleen's point, though?

Personally, I don't usually watch a lot of movies anyway, and I have plenty of CD players, so the secondary functions of consoles aren't really what I look at.

Ironically, for this reason, I bought a Gamecube first when all three consoles were available.

Not really, it wasn't a fair point.

It's like saying that people who wear asbestos pajamas tend to get burned less in fires then people who don't. >/

Here's how I see it, though - you make money off of selling games for the machine. You don't make money selling DVD's unless your company produces them. For example, Sony makes money in their DVD division from selling those, but nothing ends up in the game division; Microsoft/Nintendo make nothing. The only way to make money off of movies is if your console uses a unique format (see: UMD) and you get something going off that; however, at the moment it's not like all the movies you'd want to see are available on that format anyway.

In short, these companies want their systems to be used primarily for games, regardless of their market description, so that the profits keep rolling in directly to them.

Also, as I've stated before, I believe ALL companies sell their systems at a loss, at least initially (Microsoft was merely the first to state it publicly)...they make it up through game sales.

Lol! I think that's going to piss off the PSP owners. The PSP has more movies coming out during the second half of this year than games. Games are always first when it comes to consoles. Nintendo's DS is going to have an awesome line-up of games by the end of the year, while Sony's out making expensive movies.

So the PS3 will be another PSP... Just without the movies. I'm certain that the Sony fanboys would be much, mcuh happier if Sony spent less time and money on movies and other media devices, and more on the main thing: Games!

I've read that Sony's signed up with a Japanese porn company so they can make porn in UMD... People really only watch porn to masturbate, and where can you really masturbate on the go? So you say "Why not at home?" In which I would reply "Why not just buy the DVD for $10 cheaper? You won't have to worry about cumming on the PSP, or holding the PSP while your other hand gets busy."

All of these features we don't really need... No wonder the PS3 is going to cost $1000AU

People said that same shit about PS2.
And we all know that it fucking owned the Gamecube.

So hey, keep living your dream where Nintendo is #1 and everyone hates Sony, because that won't happen 'till Nintendo wakes up.

Funny, I don't remember anyone saying that about the GameCube/PS2... It was widely accepted that Sony was *probably* going to win the console race to begin with especially with their big head start.

Yeah, I don't know what planet Knuck was living on in 2000/2001. I DO remember most saying the XBox would bomb (Including me...whoops, forgot that Microsoft had infinite reserves of cash to throw at the thing. Oh, and Halo), but really nothing on the GCN specifically.

bass: First, if you mean the Kilzone 2 trailer, that was pre-rendered, as was much of what they showed at E3. If you mean the Old Man demo, that was a face on a black background without an environment. Not that impressive.

And yet we still have seen NOTHING from the Revolution, yet some of you people are already praising it.

And I figured that Killzone 2 trailer wasn't in-game, it just seemed way out there. But I can say however, looking at other PS3 games compared to the 360, the PS3 will be far more powerful.

Still, that's not to say I don't like the 360, I'll infact probably be getting one for it's Xbox Live play and Perfect Dark Zero.

With graphics the way they're heading, I doupt it'll be too noticable to see anything bad anyways ... well, maybe.

And with near-perfect graphics, comes more expensive software prices. The specs. for the PS3 are creamable, but look at the price factor. People will expect more from their games, meaning developers need to spend more time and money making the things, which in the end, result in us paying more for the games. Sometime in the future, games with the quality of what people are expecting of the PS3, will be cheap to make, thusly the games will be cheaper to buy. I think Sony are way too far ahead of their time to be able to keep the standard prices. Not many people will be able to pay for their favorite games, let alone the console itself.

And exactly what new features are the 2 other systems offering? It's just going to be exactly the same, except beefed up graphics. Sooner or later, people are going to get sick of these repetative games, and will want something completely new (which is the exact direction Nintendo are making and have always stuck to, really. Shoulder buttons, analog stick, rumble feature. Competitors have taken them all)

Sure, I'm a Nintendo fanboy. Always have and will be one. Tell me a first party game that the others have made that can compete with Nintendo's. Especially with how many times they've appeard in their own games. The only crappy Mario adventure game I can recall is Super Mario Sunshine. Even that wasn't too bad.

You don't really know how expensive it will be. So shut up about that.

Wait... What? Nintendo is making new shit? Like, Mario Party 8? Metroid 72? Zelda: Link Goes to the Beach? Pokemon Magenta? Oh no, Don't you say that Nintendo makes new shit. That's exactly the reason why Nintendo isn't the #1 anymore.

Who cares about 1st party games. Games are just games. The point is that the games released for Nintendo consoles didn't sell a lot compared to the ones that Sony (and Microsoft?) released.

I vote for the Revolution because:
- Nintendo rules.
- Supposedly, it will be able to play NES and SNES games. w00t.
- It's the only one with a cool name that isn't just a variation on a previous console's name. (In fact, I almost changed my screen name here to Revolution, but then I found out that Nintendo stole the name.)

Hmm... I just read the book.

Nintendo was allmost like sony is now: Dominant, I think Nintendo was even more dominant back in its gloryious days with the Nintendo Entertainment System. But loosing it's 90% Domination with it's Super System.

We may thank Nintendo, and especially Minoru Arakawa, for saving the Videogame Industry back in 1984.

But the industry is again, making some of the same mistakes, to much software, and to less high quality games.

And too expensive systems anyway, but I just hope, there is no other company that want's to enter the video game hardware buisness besides Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.

I am a Nintendo-Fan, I enjoy plaing their games, but since Iwata is head of NCL, it's not the same anymore as with Yamauchi.

Now, Nintendo is releasing Cubes and Revolution, DS and GBA's only to play games, nothing else.

But Yamauchi had his vision that everyone may use Nintendo to play games, trade stocks, order Pizza or just chat (That was in the 80s).

And even forbade licencees and itself, to release more than 5 games a year. (To ensure quality).

I would surely not be against this policy. more good software for all.

Looking at the current situation: Sony holds about 50% of the market, followed by Microsoft and Nintendo with each about 25%.

Both, Sony and Microsoft, aim for a multi purpose entertainment mashine, wich plays games, divers video discs and serves as a means of communication.

Nintendo now just wants to release a game station, to play 20 and more years of game content. be it fresh bought Revolution or Game Cube games, or downloaded Famicom, Super or '64 games.

There won't be a looser, that's sure, 'cause the Revolution will be cheap, in comparsion with the two others, but the others have strong selling points, like video playback and those internet capilities.

But as mentioned before, people mostly buy a console cos of their image, not only the games.

And everyone how buys a gaming device solely cos of its technical specifications, is a fool. Or convinced to buy it by a clerk.

These were my 2 cents.

I just hope, that everyone is happy, with the decition he or she made.

Nintendo says that it will release at a lower cost than the other two consoles.

Given that they will have to play a year worth of catchup (minimum) to the X-Box360, when their console comes out with its "lower price" it better be hella low. Because that X-Box price tag will probably go down 50-100 dollars within 8 months to a year.

And although the Australian dollar is doing quite well at the moment ($1US = $0.76AU), no matter how the ecconemy is going, Australians always pay nearly (if not more than) double the price that the US pay. DS games here cost $70, and every home console game has costed $100 here.

Sure, Nintendo have been repetative, but the others have been more-so to the extent that they're just killing the genres. Look at the X-Box for example. My brother owns one, and all there is to buy for it are FPS, and racing games. You play a game, and it feels like it's all been done before.

Nintendo's first party titles are the killer apps for their consoles. PS1 and PS2 are flooded with many, many shit third party titles, which in the end, confuse you on what to buy. Most people like the Playstation because of Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy and Gran Turismo. Sure, these are great games, but they're in a lineup of hundreds of shit ones. You'd only buy those games if someone's reccomended them to you, read a review from somewhere, or played the previous versions.

Nintendo on the other hand (besides the obvious fact of Mario Party), release fresh games that are always fun to play, and rarely seem repeatative. As I've said before many times, when you buy a Nintendo game, you know it's going to keep you entertained for hours and hours on end.

Oh, and I finally found a half-decent game for my brother and his X-Box. It's called Forza Motorsport. Too bad it's basically a copy of Gran Turismo, which in fact was a copy of a Sega Master System game.

Okay, so I'm only bringing up the past in my comments... But can we really expect anything different?

Here in switzerland it's not better, even when the Dollar is CHF 1.20, the games for DS are 70.- and home consoles are 95.-

Try the Ports of some SNK-Games, like Metal Slug 3 or King Of Fighters 2000 or 2001 (not sure anymore).

Yes, on NES, SNES and Game Boy.
