I never cut classes in HS. I did take a day off once every quarter or so just because I felt like it, but that was the extent of it. In college, especially my junior and senior years, I missed a LOT of classes. In fact, my junior year, second semester, I had a philosophy class where I only went when there was an exam. I wound up with a B in the class! |

If I skip too much of a certain subject I won't get graded for that subject, and that's pretty much all that happens. Well actually if you're gone too much you have to go to some meeting shite with the principal, your parents and all the teachers you have. Which I'm gonna do like next week. I don't really skip though, I'm just sick very very often And oh yeah if you're gone like 50% of all the total classes you have you don't get your weekly student aid money kinda thing. And I want my $130 |

In 2nd grade I sometimes skipped my psychology class, because it was the last thing on my schedual on Thursdays after a few hours of Math and Physics. But that was it. I never skipped anything important. Psychology was a lame class I took mostly to fill up the schedual, anyway. However, I do find psychology to be somewhat interesting, but I don't know.. something about the class made it seem boring. |

The only time I skip class is when I am not learning from the professor like for one class this semester. Everything I'm learning is out of the book and the professor is pretty much reciting the book. So, if I read the book anyways, why do I need to listen to the professor. In addition, my professor is horrendously boring that I either sleep or my mind drifts...

My school's pretty lenient about it. Basically they just give you detention, if you don't go they double it, standard boring procedure... but that's all they do. Just give you more and more detentions thinking that you might eventually decide to do them (even when there's not enough school days left to do them in). Just about anything else gets you suspended though, even stupid little things like wearing a hat. But I don't even need to skip because they don't really care if I actually work or not. If I'm bored I just doodle or something.

I got out of 3 of my 4 classes today, without getting in trouble. You see, I was supposed togo on a field trip with my science class, I gave the teacher $10 and he gave me a form to get signed my my mom and a form for my teachers to sign, waving my classes for that day. I didn't get the form signed, and today my teacher refunded my money, and I said I lost my waver form. I stayed with 4 other people to do an easy makeup project "took 20 minutes" and took off with $10 and 6 hours to spend. I got to skip and I didn't get in trouble for it! Isn't it awesome using cleverness for misdeeds? |

Never did it in high school because: 1) My dad's a teacher at the high school, my mom worked at home at the time. How do you pull THAT off? 2) If you didn't have a logical excuse for being absent, you faced detention. Now, in university it's a bit easier to skip classes since most teachers don't take attendance and you can pretty much miss a few classes without penalty. I did that last semester, but never more than one in a row and I always made sure to catch up on what I missed. And the teachers DO understand at that level. |

No, because my mom works at home, and I don't have a car. Then, even if I could, I wouldn't want to, because if I miss something, in my classes we move veryyyyy fast, and I'd be totally screwed. |

I've -never- cut classes. I cut days. Usually, after the first Quarter or so, my school participation drops. I just get "sick" of school basically, and just want to stay home and sit around somedays. I actually get annoyed by it, getting annoyed at myself. I always tell myself at the beginning of the years "Ok, this year I'm only going to miss school if I'm really and honestly sick". I never keep that promise. |

That seems allot but it isn't. Why are you going to skip classes because you hate them or what? (edited by Bush Hater on 05-14-05 05:51 PM) |

When I was a youth, I skipped entire days, only popping in for lunch. I hid somewhere in the building, a bathroom, a storage closet, an empty classroom. I don't reccomend doing that, but I didn't need the type of teaching that the school was providing at the time. I was fortunate enough to discover my purpose at a young age. School was distracting from this goal. Most people need school, though, simply because they don't know what they want to do with their lives yet, and because they are unwilling or unable to gather the information that school teaches on their own. I was an exception to both cases.

I used to go to school all the time until I got into High School. Freshman year was alright, I didn't skip that much, but once I got into the 11th grade, and I started to work (getting about 4 hours a sleep for two years didn't help either) I would skip all the time. It would either be me going to school late, like after 1st period or 2nd, or just not going to a class that I didn't like. I would either leave school early, of if it was really early in the day, I would go into my photo class and hang out there. The teacher was really cool about letting kids skip other classes to hang out there. An I actually did my photo work while skipping, so it was no loss. I would also skip into my drama class, and if I couldn't, I would skip into the theatre and just hang out there for a while. At one point, I had a stack of passes, so if I would skip, I would have a pass to get me around. Either written by myself or by my photo teacher (man, he was so cool). As many times as I would skip school, or class, people are still shock to learn that I passed HS too. Hey, I knew what the hell I was doing and if I knew I wouldn't be able to pass, then I wouldn't have done it. Yea I failed some classes, but I didn't need them anyway. |

Never skipped classes in high school. Took quite a few mental health days due to asses though. College i've skipped a few classes because either a. I was having a -really- stressful day and i didn't want to deal with it, or b. The professor didn't care and i was doing good in the class anyways. |

I don't skip classes. I was raised with moral beyond that. But then again how would I with parents that stay at home all day and teachers + security cameras throughout the school building? Maybe when I get to college...but then again I don't like my academics to slip...

Well, I'm posting from class. Not like I can actually work, the teacher seems to have vanished, so... IE sure does load the threads list fast, but the actual threads load uber-slow, and that's with layouts off. Has a lot to do with this tax-funded Internet connection too. Uhoh, teacher... |

Well, in Norway, there's officially no such thing as "skipping" classes. You're either in class, or you're not. If you're not, the teachers don't give a damn what reason you had, unless it's something you're obliged to attend (field trips, military briefing, school-sponsored events, and so on). Otherwise, it doesn't matter whether you're sick, on vacation, sleeping, or staying home playing video games. If you're not in class, they note that, and if you miss too many lessons (this depends on the class, you're allowed to be absent from a certain percentage of lessons), you get a warning. If you continue ditching class, you fail. Simple as that. If you're under 18, these warnings have to be signed by your parents, but if you're over, the school has no right to involve them (unless you do drugs at school or something like that). As for me skipping classes, it happens, mostly when I haven't finished an assignment or didn't prepare myself for a test. Attending class in either of those situations is a lot worse than skipping it. I also skip classes I can afford to if I happen to feel like it. German, for instance. You never learn anything important, the teacher is dull, the class itself is stupid and I would never want to learn the language if I hadn't been forced to, and the classes are early in the day, so I'll just stay in bed. Yay. |
