I tend to cut about 4 periods a week. I'm trying to stop this, but I seem to require "mental breaks"

Applying to members that have gone to or are at high school, have/do you done this? if so, how often did/do you?

Didn't you just post this at PureZC? (Not like there's anything wrong with posting the same thing at two completely different message boards...)

I never cut class, because we can only have 10 absences a semester. 11th absence = failing grade. No ifs, ands, or buts, unless maybe you were in the hospital for two weeks or something like that.

Not only that, but all absences MUST be excused by a parent. If they're not, each unexcused absence reduces your grade in that class by one partial grade (A to A-, A- to B+, B+ to B, etc.)

Well at my school we dont really have "periods" we are in a class usually all day but since im taking college courses at ITT-Technical Institute and at my school I get a half day really.

My schedule is....

8:00 AM - School Starts
8:05-8:30 AM - Advisory Period (Basically class discussion about whatever.)
8:30-9:30 AM - Free time for work. (Whatever we need to get done. Math, Reading, Foreign Language, etc.)
9:30-10:30 AM - Rotate to room of the week for certain students. (Usually 4 to each room seeing as how we have 17 in each class. 4 rooms on each hallway. A hallway consists of 2 sides.)
10:30-11:30 AM - Go to selected elective. (We pick a elective each quarter, math, read 180, etc.)
11:40-12:00 AM - Lunch.
12:00-12:15 PM - Head to bus stop.
12:15-12:30 PM - Ride bus to ITT.
12:45-2:15 PM Class starts. (Usually lecture or lab.)
Anytime after take bus home then do whatever at home. (I guess you could call it "skipping", because my high school doesnt get out until 3:10 PM.)

So I guess I skip a little bit.

Edit: I guess its not really skipping if they know about it and school is practically out. Plus I am getting the needed credits to advance.

I never really skipped any classes in High School because my school would follow you around like crazy if you ever happened to be absent. Sometimes I was a little bored, but my school only had 4 periods a day and school would finish early.

However, I do skip some classes in college, but most of the time the ones I skip are labs which I can just do at home or at another time.

I never really cut class in high school, but man did I last year (freshman year in college). I've tried to cut back (sorry for the pun) on my absences, and I've been pretty good this quarter.

Edit: BTW, I'm soo skipping classes next Wednesday so I can watch Episodes I and II, and Clone Wars Seasons 1 and 2 before heading out to see Episode III, then coming back to see Episodes IV, V, and VI.

I hated wood shop. Couldn't stand that class. So I would do one of two things:

1. Hide in the bathroom stall for 50 minutes playing with my Gameboy Color or reading a book.

2. I would hide in the dean's office. If he came by and asked me what I was doing there, I would say "Oh, well I wouldn't stop talking so the teacher sent me here for the rest of the class". I hid right in the lion's den and it worked.

"I never cut class, because we can only have 10 absences a semester. 11th absence = failing grade."

We had the same thing. But get this, if you weren't in class 5 minutes after the bell rang, you were considered abscent even if you did show up. Most teachers were pretty lenient with that though, but still...pretty shitty to get there at 6 minutes and be classified as missing an entire 50 minute long time period.

Actually, at my school, being 10 minutes late counts as an absence. But classes are generally 55 minutes long.

And yes, my school is extremely strict. The teachers yelled at us because some people liked to rip the "Dell" logo buttons off the front of the computers. They said that it ruined the network card. I mean, come on. How many computers have the network card right in front of the case where the logo is? I think they just made up a lame story for an excuse to yell at people.

If you ditch at my school you get "truents" which go on your record and eventually serve as demerits or whatever. And you can't graduate if you have too many of those, so it's how they discourage ditching. If you're absent for the entire day, it doesnt count against you though. There are also a lot of angry staff in golf carts that search the entire school during periods, and anyone without a pass gets taken to the office for a truent.
About failing if you are tardy too many times, there is something here like that too. But it's only a policy for the early morning classes. If you are late 6 times, you get kicked out of the class. No credits, ouch. For the other classes, if you are late too many times then you just get detentions.
Lastly, if you have too many truents or unexcused absenses, they take away the students' parking permit, so they arent allowed to drive to school. If they are underclassmen and cant drive yet, then their name is crossed off the list of students who are eligable for a permit when they can drive.

I dont ditch, obviously. 1) I dont want truents 2) I'm a good girl. =(

At my school, you have ten absences before you have to take a one hour catch up period (not really a detention because as long as you serve one hour worth of time, even if it's periods of five minutes over twelve days, it counts) to catch up on work. If you do it, no penalties are given. If you don't fulfil that, they can hold your credit. As it pertains to being late, classes are seventy-four minutes over four periods of a day. You can show up with ten minutes left in class and still be late. As long as you show, you won't be classed as absent; just late. Getting a bit back on topic now. I, never in my five year (I stayed an extra year, may stay another extra year because I'm still not too happy with marks even though right now I still think this will probably be my last year) high school academic history have skipped a class OR received a detention, something I'm rather proud of. If you have an unexcused absence, they call your house for confirmation and if they can't get any they count it as a skip for that class. You get a sixty minute detention (must be served in full at that time) and like the ten normal absence rule, if you don't serve it, you simply are not eligible for the credit. My school is pretty lenient. If you're willing to lose a whole credit because you're damn lazy to serve detention, you deserve it.

We have demerits if you do various bad things. Twenty demerits get you expelled, but they go away.. or you have to do something to make them go away. I can't remember, and I'm afraid to find out,
If you're late to class you get a detention, depending on the teacher. If you don't go to detention you get two demerits. If you cut then you get a call home. And maybe more demerits? Gosh I really don't know, I'm so out of the loop. Then they pretty much do nothing.
Teachers claim they know when you ditch because they won't let you make up assignments. But that's never true. I was a perfect girl freshmen year and even went to a detention. Last year and this year I blow them off, and I ditched a regular class once to avoid a project. Did it later, got full credit.. but to be fair that teacher had no idea what was going on ever.
Then I've ditched homeroom a few times because it's stupid and it's not even a class. Just take attendance and make you sit there for fourty minutes.
I'm on the Loss of Priviledge list I'm sure, no prom.
Other than that, no one has confronted me about it and I'm not like a bad student.

So many people ditch anyway. There are always people sitting out. I did once, stayed in school and just sat outside the class all day. One teacher approached me, I said I was working on homework, she left. No one else gave me a second glance. It was ridiculous.
We just don't care.

I started cutting classes when I discovered something.

If you have something due in a class, and you're not in the class on that day -- they can't get upset with you for handing it in late. So I cut a math class to get out of a deadline and did my math.

Course, cutting the math class was more fun than math too, so I started cutting other things for kicks.

I used to skip French when I had a test I wasn't ready for, and since it was first period, I just got to school, lounged around, then signed in 'late' at the office after first period.

I had a mom who was cool enough to let me take "Mental health days" in high school, meaning I could take a day off when I wanted. Up to 10 per semester. (Otherwise I'd fail, it was school rules.) Thus, i never really skipped class. 1. b/c I could just sleep in class if I wanted to. and 2. I didn't really feel like finding somewhere to go hide out.

In college I've found that skipping class is a one way ticket to fKitten Yiffer, unless your classes are blowoff classes.

Aye, cutting college classes is a terrible idea. I failed an entire semester because of it. Cutting highschool classes is easy as all hell. And no one cares, the teachers just say we have 'senioritus' and leave it at that. College is much stricter and unforgiving. A fuck up in college usually has dire consequences. Missing a single class has the potentional to screw you over royally, unless you have some trusty friends.
