Robble robble robble! You know what the best part of this article is? "Christ is not speaking to the press at this time," Pishevar said. Classic. |

I swear that they did a SNL skit on this guy like, 8 or 9 years ago. Anyone remember that? It had the "name" guy... so he was calling him the "Christmister" and "Christinator" and stuff like that.

Uh, I know that some people are obsessed with Christianity but to change your own name to Jesus Christ is rather...extreme. Nothing bad about it. I |

This is pretty funny. Funny part is he has a valid drivers license in Washington. And the part where he wont comment at this time. On a side note, I dont get my license until July.:/ |

Originally posted by Tails747 Do you know that Jesus is one of the most popular names among Mexicans, and Mexico is mostly Catholic? It isn't necessarily insulting. Is it insulting to name someone after a saint? No one can no longer be named Mary, Thomas, Andrew, Paul, Peter, Eminem... ET CETERA |

Originally posted by KefkaOriginally posted by Tails747 I guess being named Jesus may be considered sacreligious. *shrugs* I'm not entirely sure as I am no expert on the Catholic church, and I'm pulling most of this out of my experiences with France, but when children are born into the Catholic church, their first names have to be that of a saint. (i.e. Saint Nicolas, Saint Benedict, ...) Although this may seem absured, this practice leads up to the child's saint's day. Because each Saint has his or her own day (St. Nicolas = Dec. 6, St. Benedict = Mar. 16), the child gets to celebrate the day and receive presents as if it were their second birthday. So no, it's not insulting to name someone after a saint. NOTE: And since I'm replying to sarcasm, this just becomes a pointless little factoid. EDIT to Kefka: Actually, I was referring to the second part of your post. (edited by Tedd-Ewok on 05-11-05 04:27 PM) (edited by Tedd-Ewok on 05-12-05 10:54 AM) |

...but I wasn't being sarcastic. And in Mexico, at least as recent as a few decades ago, the same thing that you just described had to happen there as well. Even if a guy was born on Dec. 12, he had to be named Guadalupe... people would likely end up referring to him by his middle name (which would end up being more "manly"), but his first name would be that of a female Saint. And I'm not even kidding.

I have a friend named Jesus, and he was Mexican. I don't care if people call themselves Jesus. But calling themselves Jesus Christ is a completely different story. I guess some people are just die-hard Jesus Christ fans and even changed their names to Jesus Christ or something? o.o |

But to name yourself Jesus Christ isn't really approprite. Especially because the man did it as a big joke, more than likely. I can't see anyone laughing. |

I think it was quite the opposite Danielle. The man did it because he was a religious zealot and wanted to show his "love and dedication" to Jesus. |
