Just curious, how much did you pay for that service?

Here:

Cox Communications

Price: (40$, 50$? USD)
Down: Usually around 100kb/s max, 75 average
Upload: Usually around 30kb/s max, 20 average

Stability: very low, but that's because our house has bad wiring -- Melvin's (when he lived here) was on almost all the time

I regard dentists as a necessary evil.

I'm the same way with the light, I absolutely hate it.

At least some dentists around here give you these giant big sunglasses. I'd rather wear that than blindingly stare into a very bright light.

But Videotron's evil, and is only good when you upgrade.

Because the "Basic Package" plain sucks.

1GB download limit..... ugh.

*Anakin DarkSlayer is stuck with that, and is currently 3GB over 1GB.

(all prices in $CAN/month)

Looking at videotron.com, here's what they have:

Dialup ($14.95 with cable subscript, $19.95 without)
Basic Cable ($30.95): 300kbps, 1GB download, 1GB upload
High-Speed ($47.90): 5.1Mbps, 20GB download, 5GB upload
Extreme High-Speed ($74.90): 6.5Mbps, unlimited bandwidth

And now Sympatico for comparison:

Dialup ($22.95 for unlimited)
Intermediate ($29.95): 256kbps
High Speed ($44.95): 3Mbps, unlimited bandwidth
High Speed Ultra ($50.00): 4Mbps, unlimited bandwidth

I have Videotron High-Speed here at home, and Extreme High-Speed at my grandparents' (shared in a network) ... Basic Cable seems nowhere as good, even for the lower price Sympatico has gotten faster since I had it (the best I got from them was 1Mbps), but Videotron's High Speed service still seems the best for speed/price unless you use a ton of bandwidth ... although 20GB sure is a lot better than 1GB

I have an Execulink subscription. I have high speed, rates are the same as those that Acmlm listed. The upload rate for me is 1Mbps with no cap, by the way.

Net was down again for a large part of the weekend...

The problem, Taryn, is that I would call Sympatico but if it ends up being a problem on my end, I'm screwed since their maintenance workers are currently on STRIKE, so...

I'm thinking, since both times the net went down was right around the time the weather wasn't that great... the line probably got wet.

wireless is too slow right now to be a good way to connect people--as for weather contributing to the lines, that sounds like the likely culprit...makes me wonder why phone lines fare better though?

Rained on Tuesday. So yeah. My theory seems to be holding up.

If it stays totally sunny all weekend and the connection stays up, I'll know EXACTLY why. Then it's a line issue...
