Ace, do you have an RCA Cable modem? Mine does the exact same sequence when it starts up.

Heh, I remember one time I called because it was down... Half an hour later, I notice the loose cable. The longest it's ever been down for real was about 12 hours, apparently the cold broke something. Though it goes down as often as every 5 minutes when I use BitTorrent. (Not to mention I eat up a ridiculous amount of my bandwidth. 75% in a day this month. ) Their (Cogeco's) tech support is surprisingly good though, unlike some I've seen. (Western Digital, anyone? )

I hear Cogeco's really good but I don't think it's available in my region of Montreal. :\ The fact it's smaller than Rogers/Videotron/Bell means that more "smart" people tend to use it, meaning tech support shouldn't be as much of a problem. :\

What I'd tell you guys about the wisdom teeth?
That sucked for me also.

But look at it this way Colleen, nobody died.

I still haven't had my wisdom teeth removed, I'm not sure if I even *have* my wisdom teeth (it is possible for them to not come up).

I have a firm section of gum behind my teeth at the back, but that's it. Doesn't hurt or anything.

Nobody died but my front teeth hurt now and I probably won't be able to bring my teeth together until tomorrow. :\

Taryn: Apparently my dad never had them according to our dentist. Even if he had them taken out, it would have to be when he was realllly young.

Taryn, you just need x-rays done on your jaw to see if you have wisdom teeth or not. This assumes that your dentist has such a machine to take such x-rays and it also assumes you go to the dentist...

I don't like the dentist's office at all. I don't like lying down, being forced to stare directly at a bright light (I have sensitive eyes), having a bunch of dental equipment and whatnot in my mouth, getting bad-tasting stuff on my teeth, and having to listen to the adult-contemporary music they play on the radio. And why do dentists always ask their patients questions WHILE they are working on their teeth? How am I supposed to talk with their hands and instruments probing my mouth?

I regard dentists as a necessary evil.

Banedon, not all dentists are like the ones you describe you know--probably your parents have choosen your dentist for you? maybe if you had freedom to find one will you find one that you like. As for the substances, as long as you take care of your teeth, then you won't have to experience the other substances which have not a lot of work in getting good tastes

Well, I live in a small town with only one dentist...I won't be living here much longer though.

I had to get a LOT of dental work done in 1996, when I had eight cavities. I haven't had any since.

And the net was down AGAIN tonight. Only for 7 hours or so, so it really wasn't that bad. [/sarcasm]

Banedon - Aside from the weird blood taste in your mouth and the teeth cracking, I wasn't in any real pain during the procedure, so score one for the oral surgeon.

...Course, I still can't bite anything.

Someone did call the ISP and then did threat him to death.

...apparently, downtime does annoy people. But if you threat with someone else life... I guess some people are just so addictive.

(when Internet is down, I just shrug and do something else )

Well, for four weeks of downtime, I drew.

However, I wasn't paying for three weeks of that. If I had been paying for it, I'd have been more upset. (and the last week was provisioning, not paid service)

I'm pretty cool with things until my money is involved. I don't have a whole bunch of it to be wasting on materials and services that are no good to me, so I'd tend to get upset if there was downtime that I was expected to pay for...

I'm guessing Colleen's paying for his downtime... and if I were him, I wouldn't be real happy.

if only there was competition for broadband in his area, then I'm pretty sure he'd jump ship by now? or is there an alternative and something prevents you from switching, Colleen?

There's Videotron (cable), quite a bit faster than Sympatico (DSL), similar price and uh, more reliable, at least lately But not much else really ...

At home with the normal broadband service from Videotron, I get about 600k/sec download and 90k/sec download ... the fastest I got with Sympatico (when I had that in 2002-2003) was 120k/sec download (but 40-70k/sec was more common) and 17k/sec upload
