http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2003/11/1107_031107_snailarmor.html

A deep sea hydrothermal vent envinroment snail was discovered 2 years ago. It has iron based metal scales. It sounds like something out of a scifi movie/videogame. Like some kind of horrific RPG monster you might encounter. Old news, perhaps, but still news to me. I can't seem to find any 'update' on the subject, though. As far as I know the species hasn't even been named yet.

Insanely awesome.

And what do you expect, who else knows what's beneath our feet.

We know more about space than our own planet's depths.

The animal? What is that supposed to mean...

Anyways, the armor plated snail doesn't surprise me because there were armor plated dinosaurs in the past... Maybe the next animal that will be interesting is a plant that is mobile...

Much like in videogames, this odd creature has a weakness. It's magnetic, therefore some kind of... magnetic field/weapon probably wouldn't sit that well with it. I also wonder what would happen to it if it had to come to the surface. This thing would freeze to death in 50

I always found venus flytraps pretty interesting, myself. But a plant with roots will never be able to move physical locations. Thus the downfall of roots. Plankton, and other unicellular photosynthetic organsims, however...

I want to play with a bunch of those snails and a junkyard electro-magnet. You know, just pick up a thousand or so and BAM, dump them into somebody's open convertible. Now that would rock.

Trust me, you guys don't WANT to know what organisms exist on this earth that we don't know about yet. I guess you can start off at "absolute dark depths of the oceans" and go from there.

Don't want to know? You have GOT to be kidding me. This is the most interesting article I've come across in a long, long time. I would love to see what else lives down there. I'm a nature buff. I have an insatiable desire to know about how different animals survive, what evolutionary traits each has and how it uses them.

Well. Never thought that I'd think reading about snails would be interesting. Kinda wierd. I think of it in video games like Bit-Blade. Metal snails. Now thats something.

I'd like to know what other things there are. Some of the things we've found are facinating and I'd like to see more.

No, see, I KNOW the French are already drooling, thinking about eating one of these metallic wonders.

Did you get your daily supply of iron? No? How about this snail!

I'm not too sure about that, I think they'd rather throw them at us.

Wow, it's like that episode of Futurama where Bender becomes like God... then meets God... You know which one.

Ask your chest-hairians if they can build you your own mini-brewery. That'd rock.

As freaky as thoose creatures are, they are no danger for our daily lives obviously. So i'm not "freaked out" if anything.

To be honest I wouldn't think it would be a snail if I saw that thing, it looks like a Final Fantasy enemy.
