Probably because the people that find the holes can fix them. Microsoft has to do anything for IE, while the rest of us are just told "don't do that".

One thing I'd like to throw out there is...I've never been a victim of IE security exploits. I used IE for a VERY LONG TIME before switching to firefox (I didn't switch to firefox/mozilla until the beginning of this year and only did so because of the convience of tabbed browsing and HTML bookmarks). This means, I lived through TONS of IE security holes. However, never once have I been a victim of security exploits, spyware, having my computer be taken over, etc.

I dunno, I'm a little bothered by how about admant people are to bashing microsoft. No software company is without bugs in their software. It's just a matter of how many people try to find them...

I never did either, neo. However, I have stopped using IE for more reasons than security holes. The MAIN reason I switched is because Firefox doesn't have popups, and I can use the adblock extension to block ANY banner ads, images, or whatever I want (including the super-rare popup which might float through). Add on to that Firefox's smoother look and feel (depending on which theme you choose), extensions such as gmail notifier, and a slew of other features (tabbed browsing) that IE doesn't have, and it's an entirely better browser. Plus, I can set it so midis and other stuff actually DOESNT play in Firefox, unlike IE. Win.

I stopped using IE for the sole fact that EVERY time I've used it in the last three weeks or so, I've gotten spyware without fail. Obviously that doesn't happen with Firefox (since it's more secure, duh) but when I'm getting a 100% infection rate, something's seriously messed up.

IE7 can't come soon enough. Either it's a big step forward or a giant step backwards.

Firefox is awesome, yes. IE sucks, yes. But people who are all "OMGF FIREFOX PWNS CUZ ITS NOT M$ LOL" are just a pain. At least provide real reasons (eg built-in tabs, better security, removability). Also, just wanted to point out that there are add-ons for IE that implement a simple tab system. FF's is just better (and comes with it).

Why can't there be a browser where security holes are all clogged up with helpful mushrooms. and uma thurman.

Because a browser with no security flaws whatsoever would be perfect which is essentially impossible. Mushrooms rot, and people would want to take Uma out of the holes, opening them up again.

Notifier is an extension now? The one I have is just a stand-alone program.

BTW, that Wordpad hole... Does it affect systems without SP1/2? I don't see it mentioned on the site.

Pretty neat, but unless they add support for multiple accounts, I may as well just stick with the official one. That way I don't need Firefox open, for one thing.

But google does show adsense ads in the pages.

Still, adsense ads dosen't annoy me. They're text only, and unless your on a 400 baud modem or something...

I have two gmails, but I use the other one for eh... certain things that needs e-mail.

...g-mail notifier was the first extension I downloaded and used. Other than that I really hadn't gotten crazy with Extension until lately.

My favorite being downthemall... oh boy how useful that is on certain sites.

Gmail? Naw, I'd like to keep my emails private.

1GB is nothing. I technically have a 200GB storage space for my emails. It's called a email client. (and my hard drive)

Anyway, if Microsoft ever gets with the ball and puts a tab feature in IE, I am SO switching back. This board, amonth other places, loads slow as balls in Firefox but is super fast in IE.

You know, if all you wanna are tabs you could use something like MyIE2.

Yeah, Microsoft's announced that tabs will be part of IE7, but things like Maxthon have existed for years that extend those kind of features onto the Internet Explorer engine.

Thing about IE7, though, is that Microsoft hasn't given a hint yet as to weather they'll finally add standards support for anything after the year 1998 (full PNG support, CSS1, CSS2, the parts of CSS3 that are popular in non-IE browsers, XHTML, XML, XSLT, etc)

Plus the way IE executes code that you never ask it to... and you can't disable those installation prompts...

So what if IE has tabs? That's not even the main reason I switched <3 Adblock so much!
