Temporal Flux 2.0 Preview

Original article at http://www.chronocompendium.com/Stories/6

by ZeaLitY, May 8, 2005

One of the most enduring aspects of the Super Nintendo, its equivalents, and its predecessors is their easy modification. When the first rom dumps appeared on the internet, it was only a matter of time before the curious and the skilled began dissecting their codes and attempting to edit the games. These starting points

It's pretty cool that a new editor is coming out. I never played Chrono Trigger, but I heard its a good game. Now that theres an editor in progress for it, people can soon hack one of their favorite rpgs! I hope this editor gets even better as time progresses...though I never tried it.

Temporal Flux has been around for 4 months now, he's talking about a new (hopefully less bug-riddled) version.

When there's a couple more options that appeal to me, I'll consider looking at it.. But not until then.

Wow... that seems pretty cool. I would definitley play around with this once it gets released...

...I forget why I haven't tried the previous version before... oh, yeah... it wouldn't work on my computer...

Just looking at it is really interesting and is now catching my eye. Hopefully, there will be many CT hacks once this gets released... I might even try my hand at hacking it once this comes out...

After the Compendium opens, I'm planning to divert full resources (that want to volunteer) to finishing the Crimson Echoes demo. This'll give some hard reality to the possibilities of TF, in addition to Chickenlump's projects and anything others might be cooking up.

Why, as a matter of fact I HAVE!

It's still not perfect, but it's still a fun diversion for me.

Zeal Battle 2.0

I've added a bit of polish to it.
Have fun with it. Apply to an unheadered American ROM.
Be at a fairly high level with Crono in the party, and walk into Gato's Exhibit.

This version should be a little more balanced, but still challenging.

This was also a good chance to try out a scrolling background, something I wish there were more of in CT.

Also, welcome to the board Master Blind Samurai.

I just tried it out again. If you apply the patch to a headered ROM, you get a pink screen when you enter Leene Square.

Make sure you use Temporal Flux or Geiger's Snes9x Debugger to remove the header, exit, and then patch the ROM.

It should work. If not, PM me and I'll send you a working version.

-edit-
heh heh.. Schala's AI has something wrong with it, it seems to be borking up the match.
I have beaten it without the battle borking, but it seems to be random. It's cool to look at, anyway.

ahh chickenlump, looks like some one beat your hack again, managed to beat them, mind you even with maxed out team, it was difficult due to hallucation + geyster combo, plus schala has ridiculiously high defenses, even with prismspecs, best skill against her, confuse does less than 500 hp damage total, i got lucky with ch from ayla, but i think thats hardly fair since ch is guranateed hit of doom, other wise excellent hack, method i used was generally same but with one execption, you must remove magus first to get rid of his annoying area affect attack, hallucation is hardly a threat since megaelixirs covers that weakness quite effectively, but however, magus i noticed has insane speed, even star speed crono seems slower than him, so you run in risk of mass murder from area attacks from him, which makes him even more deadlier ever than before. keep good work chicken lump oh btw, one small bug i noticed, if u beat it, you cant get out

Yeah, I've got a few things to learn yet.
On the bright side, I found out why Magus just sort of stood there untargetable...
He has a byte set for his death animation or death effect. His states that his sprite remains on screen when defeated (if you wish to use the sprite again if he survives battle, for more event happenings).

And you could have found out by playing it Bush Hater...

Bad news...

I was sacked at my job today. I have to cut costs, so my server will be down until I can get another job. Consider all projects on hold indefinately. I do not know how available I will continue to be (I am keeping my internet for now, but that may change).

That sux Geiger... sry to hear that.

Its great that TF is getting a great update, but i really wish there was a Mario RPG editor. Time spent on that would be better IMO. I wish i knew enough to make one.

Heh heh... I noticed that as well. I surmised it was probably something in the water here...

Who am I kidding. It's the corn, the corn!
