I am not too convinced about what religion has to say about things. I'm leaning towards believing science, but I'm not sure what I believe, as nothing has really been proved yet.

See even as a Christian I believe in Big Bang...although it doesn't jibe with most of your heretic, secular "balls of gas and clouds of dust that exploded into this" theory but ok Allow me to sum up my feelings for this thread, and more specifically, your post, in one simple statement. "Christian's DON'T believe in gravity!" (edited by Valcion Kaizer on 05-12-05 11:04 AM) |

Ugh. Neither side has proof. If there was proof out there to be found, someone would've come up with it by now. As a Christian, I have my beliefs; as an atheist, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, or whatever you are, you have yours, as well. None of us can prove that we are right! Period! Can't we all just get along? That sounds so naive, so immature, but arguing over this cannot lead anywhere. Discuss it calmly, by all means, but allowing feelings to get out of hand on a topic that'll never be resolved is unwise, I think. |

No. A baby is agnostic. Being an atheist is holding a BELIEF that there is no god or dieties. Ergo, the baby has not made an active choice of believing or disbelieving, but simply doesn't know. Therefore, it is agnostic. Which can sway both ways.

Ergo, the baby has not made an active choice of believing or disbelieving, but simply doesn't know. Therefore, it is agnostic. That's ignorance, not Agnosticism. Agnosticism is the belief that it is impossible to know whether there is a god or just that one is skeptical of the existence of one. Logically, in order to follow such an idea, one has to be of the same opinion. (duh) Now, it may just be, but I don't know a baby who can rationally come to the decision that their can't be a god. Originally posted by Silvershield Ultimately, yes. However, people still like to dispue certain topics that they know the other side can't hold up at all. One example is creationism vs. evolution. Evolutionists use Darwin's Finches, creationists can't back up, and use only faith (not that that's bad). 1-0. As of right now, I'm trying to think of an arcument that's won by creationists. But still, you get the idea. Big picture, everyone's wrong until aliens or Jesus H. Christ himself descends from the heavens. Edit: Tedd, Wiki says different. Agnosticism isn't saying it's IMPOSSIBLE to know which is right, just that you don't know. The word Agnostic quite literally comes from the greek term meaning "without knowledge", and there is no mention of it being impossible. So, class, agnosticism = ignorance of deity/non-deity. Edit 2: I still think SS is cool, though =( (edited by Cymoro on 05-12-05 02:28 PM) (edited by Cymoro on 05-12-05 02:41 PM) |

Tedd-Ewok has it right. Most people get the definition of "agnostic" wrong. And SS has always had points with me. "Techincally you are an christian after your baptised." Uh, no? You don't have to be baptised to be a christian. |

Originally posted by Valcion KaizerRofl, thank you . Seriously, I'm just providing, in writing, what the proponents of each side know is true in their heads. I'm all for discussion, but avoiding insulting remarks is a Good Thing. That goes for believers just as much as disbelievers, though I'd side with the former. |

It's boring when I have to listen to teenagers attempting to justify their beliefs, both ways. I am most tired of it, mostly because the hard-core kids on both sides lack the necessary knowledge to make arguments fun. And it ends up sounding a lot like two fools arguing over who is a bigger kill whore in Counter Strike. The funniest is arguing with rebelling teenagers who claim that God is impossible, yet can say with absolute certainty that all other deities are possible Oh, the New Age section of Chapters. What would I do if you had been placed away from the Christian-Judaism-Islam section? |

Originally posted by Silvershield Let's think about it this way. Read Cy's post about Bobism? It reminds me of scientology, which is FAKE, according to all of the evidence against it. Yet most of this evidence wasn't compiled until the 90's. People thought it was fake before the 90's, because it had no credibility. Christianity is based on a book. I think that no proof is much greater proof than a book written two thousand years ago. Of course, neither side could win indefinitely, like you said. However, think about how Christianity fails. "You will go to hell if you aren't Christian." What about people who aren't given the opportunity to become Christian? Like babies, or people in certain places where they have no resources such as the bible? There are people who claim that these people will go to hell. However, they are given no other opportunity. It's crazy things like these that make the Christian religion incredible. People only believe it because it caught on. They don't question anything enough. |

Originally posted by windwakerEmphasis, obviously, is my own. Many people who would have you believe that they know "the truth," that they are the only ones aware of God's plan and God's will, are only correct in their own minds. I have my own beliefs about how God operates but, for the life of me, I cannot justify some of the seeming injustices that He performs. My only recourse? God works in mysterious ways. Not only is it a clich |

That and there are many, many, many forms of Christianity. Even within every sect there is another sect. And within these there are differing views. Every religion has this. Personally, I believe that God is all forgiving. He allows all people after they die, regardless of creed to be judged fairly. Those who have lived good lives will be allowed into Heaven. The sinners repent upon Mount Purgatory. Only the absolutely rotten and evil people go to Hell. God doesn't care what you are, as long as you are a good, honest, loving person who lives with good morals and helps his neighbour regardless of who they are. |
