Well, there are some facts and various other items that go in favor of both Creation or Evolution. However, I am not believing Creation. No one can prove a single fact about Jesus' existence. I'm also not quite sure what to make of that Shroud of Turin. What about you? What do you think legitimately supports each fact? |

I don't think anything about a religion that requires itself to seep into the lives of others like a bad virus is legitimate. Does Jesus exist? I don't know, nor do I care to know. I think that religion in general is man's way of easily answering questions he doesn't know. How simple is it to look at a complicated situation and say "It was God's will"? Too, freakin', easy! Life is so much more complicated and convoluted than just "God did it". Look at the Tsunami disaster. When millions of people die, it was "the will of God" and when one person gets SAVED from the Tsunami disaster it was ALSO 'the will of God". How much sense does this make? He'll kill and save at the same time? That just doesn't cut it for me. Nor any of that "God works in mysterious ways" crap, either. I think that each person needs to look inside themselves and ask what truly works for them. If believing a 2000 year old dead man loves you, fine, go for it, but you should be true to YOURSELF and not what other people think is right. |

Well I believe the man existed but he was just that, a man. Nothing more. As for the Shroud of Turin, it's been proven to be a medieval forgery. |

My thoughts exactly. Now, don't get me wrong tho. I don't think Jesus existed, but I do believe that there is something up there... watching. |

I've heard many people talk about the weird things they feel at times that make them believe there's SOMETHING there. I won't comment on that just because I don't feel it's my place. We all believe in something and I respect that... granted the mass-conformation that keeps many religions going does tend to piss me off. On a different note, what's this Shroud of Turin thing? I've never heard of it. (edited by Sage of Creation on 05-07-05 01:40 PM) |

Well, we were taught that Jesus existed. He was born in Nazareth. He was crucified too. It's all recorded on census, apparently. Too bad God couldn't sign his birth certificate, would've been final proof Honestly, I believe he existed, but it remains to be seen whether he was who he said he was. Mythology is usually very distorted, but the fact that his existance is recorded signifies that he was someone very influencial and special. |

We KNOW he existed, what he did and who he was is a different story. Its faith, get over it, you can't just disprove religion because of how it was made. Its all faith. I've never heard anyone who is religious that I talk to say the tsunami was gods will, they said there was an earth quake, yada yada. They don't say "It was God's will" for every good or bad thing. Just get over it, you don't like religion, don't bash it. It has made people better people, some worse though... |

Well, I believe that when they say it was gods will, then maybe they are saying that "Something miraculous caused this"

I've never heard a christian say the tsunami was God's will, so I have no clue what you're talking about.

Well, the tsunami apparently (did not) appear without a warning. I think thoise crazy people all think god purposely wanted to kill innocent people.

What the fuck is this thread about? Is it about the existance of Jesus Christ? Is it about evolution vs. creationism? Is it some bizzare abstract construct of a corrupted mind? Seems like a mess of a combination of all the above, so I'll answer it as such. Correct me, however, if I'm wrong about the nature of this topic. Jesus existed, of this I am sure. Whether he was the son of God or a crazy man is another story entirely, one I won't divulge my opinions on. After all, it was 'did he exist', not 'was he the son of God'. I'm more inclined to believe Evolution. Unfortunately, I've heard no explanation for the original creation of life that makes sense. Either it came from a pool of chemicals, or some magic man in the sky made it. If it were the first one, then we should be able to eventually recreate that scenario (let me know if it has been recreated, please). And if it's that second one, well... I'm not a religious person, so if it's the second one I'm screwed. (edited by Grey Jedi Cheveyo on 05-07-05 04:10 PM) |

But in a way, his existence is secondary to the stories, no? There are figures such as him in many religions, and he wasn't the first... it's more about the tales than it is the physical evidence.

Originally posted by Grey Jedi Cheveyo I remember seeing a doccumentry about famous people of the past, where a man tried to "evolve" flies, as their life span is much shorter than humans' (obviously), but his efforts never really paid off. One day however, a new mutant fly flew in through his window, which had never been identified before. His genereic efforts paid off! I believe in science. Almost everything that religion says to be "an act of god" has been proven wrong by scinece. We all evolved from single celled organisms (from which we advanced I'm not sure... But it certainly wasn't some "God") Is religion trying to say that God created the universe? Sure, we're not sure how it all started in the beggining, but our solar system started from the dust of previously expired stars which exploded leaving their remains which turned into future stars. I think that religion is something man made up to take away their fear of the unknown. "What happens when we die?" and so forth. "God forgives your sins" ... Okay, so God does... But everybody else doesn't. Again... Something to make man feel better about stuff 'n things. |

Don't push elvolution forward like its a fact, its still a theory. How the universe was created is a thoery. To disprove something, you have to use facts.
