Hi.

Please forgive me for making another topic regarding the Smashable Brick troubles in my hack, but I'm starting to believe I have one last problem in my way before the Smashable Bricks I will definitely use will fully work (when I mean fully work, I mean that besides having them look 100% right in the hack, that they also bounce when hit from below by Small Mario/Luigi, and turn into coins when a Blue P-Switch is pressed (I have the latter two done here)).

In my hack, when I see a Smashable Brick, for some of the frames (about a quarter of them I think) the block looks like a non-animated question block. How can I correct this problem w/o basing my hack off of DW (not DW: TLC, I noticed in DW that the Smashable Bricks there don't bounce when hit from below by Small Mario/Luigi, and that version of the Smashable Brick is unfortunately not what I'm looking for)?

As always, thanks in advance.

I hereby revoke your right to give advice, smwedit.

And Knight of Time:

It's probably a problem with the default animations - I can't be certain what exactly since I'm not on a comp with LM but if it isn't answered when I get back I'll help you.

Okay, thanks Kyouji. I appreciate your kindness.

Oh and smwedit: Yes, I am using Block Tool again (after all, I wouldn't want to try and insert any custom block of my choice from the program into my hack w/o using it, right? )

BTW, if you guys want, you can call me Kyle (many of my friends at another message board call me by my real name, as do I for them).

Alright. First off, I'd check what 8x8 tiles it's using... I mean, certain tiles you're gonna not want it to be using. you're gonna probably want to make sure it's not set to use certain tiles. Right know I'm just gonna throw out a guess that it's probably making use of 40-7F. You're gonna not want that, those are all animated. Specifically, you're probably using between 40 and 4B, but that itself doesn't really matter.

Regardless of what it actually is, the way to solve it is probably going to be to create an ExGFX file out of either GFX14 or GFX17 (probably GFX17) and replace something you never actually use (probably the bushes) with the graphics for the breakable block, and set it to use those graphics.

There's another thing that's nagging me about this problem, but I'm going to wait to see if this helps you before I say it.

Okay, I'm using 8 x 8 tiles 40-43 for the smashable brick, and for the ExGFX I simply made a file with the brick's graphics, similar to DW.

About the bush graphics I probably would not want to use, would any of the 8 x 8 tiles from bush 4 (I assume nobody here would use this one or bush 5 in their hacks, right?) be good candidates to replace with the smashable brick tiles?

That's your problem. That's part of the animated tile range. While in plains levels they don't appear animated, they screw up stuff if you replace them anyway since they're actually the same frame repeated over.

And really, as long as the item in question isn't in one of the entrance areas it's fine... And even then you can edit them out of it.

Okay, thanks again Kyouji.

I just got the smashable brick to look right in my hack, but everytime Small Mario/Luigi hits it from below, the "bounced" block has palette 8 instead of 6 (I'm talking about the palettes from the 8 x 8 editor). Would it be wise for me to change this?
