http://www.rte.ie/news/2004/0330/terrorists.html

I heard this same story on the radio earlier today. It's really ticking me off how and why people do this to others. I really don't understand it. Were they mad with the way things were going lately and decided to try their own chance of destruction or what? I'm sure that they're some reasons, but I haven't seen a good reason on killing people just to show that their power... I was concerned after hearing this story as there are a few good people that I know in that country, but I was really wondering..? What's the point behind it?

Becuse so they can scare people. An terrorist bomb hurts an country Psylogically. Which of course hurts that country economy...

When your really really religious, you can do all sort of things just for you country. Including Suicide.

Europa isn't safe from terrorism, but I certainly is glad that Sweden isn't allied with other countries and is trying to be neutral. which we aren't in a way... hopefully that won't happen here becuse it would hurt our open community alot. Sweden isn't prepared for an attack and it's outcomes...

The point behind it, they think they go to heaven when they kill people like this. More like hell if they ask me...

Holy crap... If they were in West London, they could've targeted Paddington and the Great Western Railway... I don't use that line often, but it's still scary... There have been two tragedies between Reading and Paddington already, both train accidents.

Reading was affected both times because we have the busiest station outside London, and the last main station when travelling from the west. Most of the commuters on that busy line come from Reading.

Let's hope that security is maintained.

Your country probably has ties to America. Therefore, it's a target.

Today 18 people died in a bombing in Uzbekistan. Anyone care? No.

Well outside of there, probably not, but it's sort of mean to say no one cared...18 people know X other people...

Ummm, I think you have a few things mixed up. About the "really really religious" I think that wouldn't mean that would be doing it just for their country. You're getting that confused with nationality. Though I still don't get the point is that while they may scare people, they sure are making it so that they want everybody against them. Especially about religion... I don't know what Islam teaches and I'm sure not saying that Islam is a religion full of terrorists, but why would people do that to their religion? Why would they do that to give it a bad name..?

Heh, I'm in a similar situation. Canada doesn't really have any enemies (and we're bordered by the US, the North Pole, and a lotta water ) but I live close to the border, so if the bombs start hitting near NYC I'm likely toast too. Of course, they're more likely to go after Washington in a war, which is far from me. A bigger concern is that the majority of our defenses are the US, and we have a lot of clean water and free space. They're bound to come looking for some of that eventually... (Heck, just about everyone is.)

I think it depends on the stance the country takes regardless of their ties.

Canada are allies with the United States, but we didn't support the war in Iraq and didn't send troops. Compare that to a country like Spain, who sent a few troops and had a tragedy occur.

... or a country like Australia, whose government is still supporting it and the President, and who sent troops and still have troops in Iraq. We have already had an attack on Australians (the Bali Bombing, which specifically targeted Australian tourists) although no attack on our soil....

Yes, but they think they're doing it for the right reasons. Otherwise it wouldn't happen at all. And there'd be no way to convince them otherwise. It's more of a matter of your perception of religion than right or wrong. We think this sort of thing to be terroristic. They think of it as a holy action. To them, it's not "the wrong way"

There is NO right reason for a terrorist attack at all.

It's pissing me off, too. People need to chill the fuck up and stop trying to fuck eachother up in every possible way. Of course that will never happen.

What pisses me off more is that most of this bullshit is caused by religion. And no offence to the Muslims/Islamitic people here, but lately it's CONSTANTLY been Muslim and Islam terrorists who've been doing shit everywhere here in Europe. The islam is a big religious group, and I don't give a damn about it, what pisses me off is that Islamitic people have this habit of not liking people who aren't Islamitic, and that leads to violence.

Becuse they simple don't know that it hurts the image of islam. I have nothing against that relgion itself actually, there is christian terroirists too...

Nationality and religion is similar in a way, but yeah the reasons they make the attacks isn't religious, it's Nationalistic. But they make it look like it was relgious.

And so there are ignorant people who hate islam for the terrorist, and that is ignorant. (I know somebody who follows islam in my class, and I like her... so my image of Islam is mostly positive )

Strangely, people who take things to the extreme, in terms of religion I think, tend to be the ones that hurt it the most. Like for instance, Christians that go around saying people will go to Hell for doing something they think is wrong is just not smart and it's certainly not going to be any assistance.

About terrorists though, from the looks of things, it may be that terrorism will be in the picture for a while unfortunately. Iraq seems to be a factory of terrorism right now, as there are so many Iraqi civilians dying from car bombs and other things. Along with the outbreaks of violence in Iraq as well. Unfortunately, the unrest is going to make it hard to decipher what's a terrorist attack and what's not...
