What exactly makes a Newbie a Newbie and an Oldbie an Oldbie. Does it have to do with your post count, how long youv'e been a member, your expierance, or a combination of these.

a combination of all those things...the term newbie and oldbie is all relative and it depends on the general, unconscious opinion of the board's members to determine who is a newbie and who is an oldbie...

however, for a very shallow description of what makes a newbie a newbie and an oldbie and oldbie--you use post counts...they are useful for intial classification but in the long run are not very accurate...

I also learned this from social class...(I guess it's the only schooling that has helped me!)

It is like Canada and WW1 and 2, before it, it was considered a british colony
(n00b)
but, after WW1 and 2
(posting, partispating, and time)
It became fully independent.
(Oldbie)

At least thats how I see it.

What's partispating?

xD

Anyway, it's really a mix of them.. mostly time registered, then posts... EXP is relative...

... then again it's a mix of both... sounds like we have a winner

Everyone who's been here for a long time and stayed active enough to be well recognized can be considered oldbie ... you don't need a high post or day count for that, especially if the board restarted

FuSoYa only had about 1 post per day, took him forever to reach 1000 ... yet he's been there from the start and didn't have long inactivity periods, not to mention the Mario World hacking forum is pretty active, so you can't call him newbie

The prevailing definition at this board seems to be this:

Anyone who registered at the old board on or after January 1, 2002, is a newbie.

Well, I don't know about Oldbie Newbie, but I can say I've been here for about 2 years? Sometime in mid april. Still... I don't really post all that much. My post rate before the crash was 0.46 per day or something. I do have one question, though. Does anyone have any idea what caused the crash?

Yesterday around this time TEK almost lost its board to that hacker. (I'm assuming its the same one thats been hitting ALL acmlm boards lately, but *shrugs*. Time will tell, right?). Solid-Tbone backs up the board daily (thank god), so it turns out we lost nothing whatsoever.

I was thinking partispating as in trying to stay on topic with board events...

Kitten Yiffer had, if memory serves, been here and lurked on the then EZboard. Yet he only became active here a year or so ago, and was almost certainly called a newbie back then. So it's all relative.

I still see Neko as a newbie. Then again I see lots of people as newbies. Erk, jasukan, Jiz (to a lesser extent)...

The Earliest thread I rembember was an thread about Chip challange. There was an link to an editor for that game and Acmlm made an comment how fun he had with that game.

It was from early 2002.

I rembember back in 2000 or maybe 2001... I had problems finding Acmlm's rom hack domain. For some reason I couldn't spell Acmlm... tried with Acmklm acmm aclm and such.

I got into the ROM hacking scene early (1999 or something), ironically it ended for me right after I joined this board.

And Trapster/MNeko isn't an newbie, he is an stalker.

Wasn't there a thread in General about this?

I'm still a newbie, even though I've been here since sometime in the beginning (I think) of 2002. I'm not very well known around here because most of my days registered were spent lurking, and I'm starting to get in a lurker mood again now

So if you post actively, been here for awhile, people know you, and so on, then I don't think you're a newbie.

Yup. Also, there's the issue of only posting in some forums. A lot of people wouldn't recognize some dedicated ROM hackers who only post in those forums.
