My soundcard was working before my computer crashed and when I reformatted and reinstalled Windows 98 (Second Edition) everything worked fine besides my sound card >< It doesn't work. I dunno the exact type of it because it doesn't say on the thing but I'm assuming its "PCI Multimedia Audio Device" because that comes up when I search for newhardware but windows keep getting an error about the Driver not being found. Anyone know how to fix this? I probably just to reinstall the driver but I dunno where to find it at. Any help would be appreceated |

It's not PCI Multimedia Audio Advice, that's just what Windows puts if it doesn't know. If you have a CD or anything with the drivers, just use that. Or if you're like me, whose computer was made by Compaq, who put's their factory setting and driver backups on a partition of your hard drive, that could be easily erased, instead of a CD then... Is it an actual card, or onboard/integrated? Try opening your PC case and see if you can look for the name of the manufacturer. This utility might be able to help you out. Is it onboard? If so, Do you have the CD that has the drivers for it? Plus, would it be possible to tele us what soundcard name it was before you went to reinstall Windows 98 SE? I would find the CD that came with your motherboard if it's onboard, or CD for soundcard if it isn't onboard. The CD would sure probably come in handy, if you still have it. |

if your sound card is built into the motherboard, then you should go to the motherboard's homepage and get those drivers. the drivers for an installed sound card do not work the same way as the drivers for built in sound. anyways, i believe jasukan's program will tell you the type of sound card you have and hopefully the mother board manufacturer. |

Ok. I opened up my computer and it turns out I don't have an soundcard in an PCI port (thats what they're called right). Its inside the motherboard (Intergated?) so I need to find out what type of motherboard I have I went to www.windowsupdate.com and they are updating my windows apparently. It wont help me though will it? |

no it won't...if you had CDs that came with the computer, you might try popping those CDs in and see what they do--i have a feeling at least one of the CDs should be motherboard related. if not, sometimes motherboards have their makers printed on them somewhere.

It still doesn't work. I did what you guys told me to do. I looked up what type of motherboard I had using that program that jasukan linked me to. Manf. - Intel Corporation Model - MP440BX Verison - AA698435-301 Serial Number - ISMP83006559 Did all that. Downloaded the soundcard which APPARENTLY was too it. But it doesn't work. The sound card is installed but no sounds some out. I still get nothing but a buzzing noise from my speakers (and I know its not my speakers at fault). At least I have one installed so I can play games now |

Well it may seem too obvious but check all the levels in the volume control. Also try opening up the System control panel (right-click My Computer, go to Properties), go to the Device Manager, and see what it has to say.
