| Nononono, it's nothing about Power. My 486 ran GIF files fine with no problems. It's rather that Firefox have lower delay cap than IE. IE have some odd delay limit when it comes to GIF files. |

| Huh. Y'know, I'd like to say I expected a more meaningful thread, but that wouldn't be accurate. People change browser/OS/email service/other crap every day. What's next, someone posting a thread because they changed their underwear? =/ I only use IE because I have no choice in the matter. I'll try other browsers when I get a chance, if only because certain assholes choose to block certain browsers from visiting their site - not mentioning names, of course. I don't care how much a browser doesn't comply with standards, how many pointless features it lacks, or whatever other complaints you have about it; if you don't like it, don't bash it - just don't use it, and save the rest of us the frustration of listening to you/reading your posts. Bah, I'm getting annoyed just thinking about the subject.  |

Sometimes I'll provide extras or a better looking site to competent browsers, but it'd never occur to me to use it as a means of limiting functionality. |

I don't like people who switch to firefox because they're too stupid to avoid clicking "yes" when a porn sites tries to install shit to their computer. I don't like people who think IE is insecure just because they've never been to windows update. I don't like people who actually think firefox has no vulnerabilities. I don't like people who think using firefox makes them cool. I don't like people who force others to use Firefox to properly view a page because they are too inept to add 2 lines to their HTML. | And I can understand why people block IE, really. Guess what kind of programs IE would install automatically on "judgy sites"? Programs that turn the computer into a Zombie PC, programs that make the computer a e-mail server and then spam the heck out of people. I wouldn't block IE from my homepage, merely recomend a alternate browser such as Firefox or Opera. |

| I tend to switch off. I use Firefox for Acmlm's since many people make their layouts non IE friendly, and Safari (woo Mac) for everything else. It seems like when it comes to flash movies, Firefox just flat out sucks handling them. I don't really hear complaints about this so it's probably just me.. somehow. I don't think this thread needs to be closed unless it gets out of control. Plus we haven't had a "YOU MUST USE THE BROWSER I DO" fit in a while.. have we? |

| FreeDOS: I recognize the difference between "commercial" (making money off it) and "proprietary" (keeping things secretive). I believe I used the correct term. Which leads me to... Jesper: I take no issue with the Opera development team making money off it. The trouble is that it's not a browser where someone can get the full version, legitimately, without paying money. Not everyone has the means or desire to pay money. This, coupled with the fact that there are a host of other browsers (very good ones too) one can get for free (many with source code available if desired), would hinder widespread adoption of Opera. It's not a show-stopper, but it would slow it down more than if the same browser were free. (And yes, I do realize that it may well not be the same browser if the development team weren't being paid.) |

What's wrong with FF's flash? It works fine for me. Also BMF pretty much summed up what's wrong with IE. No matter how much you update, patch, and try to avoid these things, they still happen. It's a risk a lot of people would rather not take, and the most logical way to avoid it is to not use IE at all. (And even when it does ask you to install the spyware, still, having to click No every time is way annoying. What genius decided it needed an 'always trust content' option and not a 'never trust content' one?  Not to mention they can always just keep popping up over and over again...)BTW, I almost forgot these. They're little chunks of Javascript that you can use by pasting them into the URL of a bookmark. (Just make a new bookmark and copy all the code into the 'URL' field.) Did you get that code from here? It's exactly the same...  And also, Flash used to be slow on Firebird for me. But it was fixed on the later Firefox versions. If you have the latest version of Firefox, why not upgrade Flash? (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 04-10-05 07:02 PM) |
