Get Firefox
And I'm proud of it! Firefox is really great! I love the tabbed browsing, themes, and customizable-beyond-belief toolbar! Sorry this may be spam, but I love to tell people things when I fall in love with something!

EDIT:Wow not sure what happened there but linking that inage was a pain in the ass...
EDIT!!:Also, can anyone tell me anything else thats cool for FireFox, someone once mentioned Mouse Gestures??

Go to Tools -> Extensions and click Get More Extensions, there's a whole busload of cool add-ons. (If you can't get them to install, just save the file to your HD and open it; I had a problem with that for some reason.) Here's some nifty ones:

StumbleUpon - Something to do when you're bored. Basically opens random web pages and lets you comment on them.

Plain Text Links - Select any plain-text URL (eg: http://www.google.ca) and right-click it, and you can open it. Great for boards that don't automatically make links out of them.

TinyURL Creator - Makes TinyURL links; very useful.

Tab Mix - Frickin awesome tab add-on. Lets you re-arrange the tabs, change behaviours, etc.

AdBlock - A must-have for sure. Don't like something, just block it! You can use wildcards in the filters, and it actually removes the object rather than just hiding or changing it, so no big empty spots or wasted bandwidth where ads used to be.

ForecastFox - Accurate weather anywhere, without spyware! Yes, apparently it is possible.

User Agent Switcher - Lets you tell sites you're using a different browser, even made-up ones.

IEView - For things that absolutely won't work in FF, you can open them in IE instead. (Not recommended unless it has a legitimate reason to be using IE-only features. )

Image Toolbar - Nice add-on that adds the image popup toolbar like in IE. You can actually copy an image to the clipboard without saving it, yay! (Interesting note: It actually modifies the page source to do this via Javascript. )

Nuke Anything - Similar to adblock, this lets you temporarily remove anything from a page. (Great for MSNBC's crappy sidebar. ) The only thing I've found it can't remove is text in the middle of a link.

DragToTab - Drag files/links/text onto the 'Open New Window' or 'Open New Tab' buttons in the toolbar to open the file in a new window/tab.

ReloadEvery - Reload a page every so many seconds/minutes.

DownTHEMall - Save all files with a specific extension on the page.

And on a sorta-related note, I changed the 'Get Mozilla' link in my layout yesterday too. I think I've been using FF long enough to determine that it kicks the original's ass.

Now, now. If it wasn't Firefox he had switched to, I don't think you would have responded.

[16:49:00] <Skiffles> that post was delicious.
[16:49:07] <Skiffles> it just screamed out "PWNT"

But yeah. Firefox is good and all; but you're still lame for making a whole thread about switching :'(

I care, I am happy as long people start to use other browsers than IE. I don't care if it's Opera, Firefox, Safari or Konqurer. As long it's somewhat standard compilance.

If a page dosen't work on Firefox, when it does follow the W3C standards and all. Report it to Firefox, have anything that you don't like about tbe browser? Tell the devolopers that.

Hell, i'm considering to contact them about the CSS thing.

...now, try to contact the IE devoloprs and see if they do anything.

I dont think any professional company takes input from users...but I could be wrong because I've never tried to suggest stuff to companies

This thread is a waste but for someone who doesn't make threads often, I think this can be forgiven yeah?

He's not interested in fixing them, he just wants to justify his choice of browser. (I have personally sent in all of my Opera complaints to Opera.) That's moronic, of course. He likes the way Opera works, and that's good for him. I like the way Firefox works on Windows and Linux and OmniWeb works on Mac, good for me. He doesn't need to justify his choice of browser, it's just a nice cover so that he gets to be an ass to people.

People still using IE *after* being assraped by exploits and spyware and *knowing* that better alternatives are out there, however... that's just like ordering pizza from the same parlor every day, continuing to eat the pizzas even as they get progressively nastier and nastier, because you think the other restaurants have ugly logos. That's because the bad sides has vastly outshined the good sides - being familiar with the program.

And that's why people are so fucked up about people wanting them to switch browsers; they feel familiar in IE, and they like it, strange pop ups or not. Those nerds can go to hell, they say. And the general snarkyness from some Opera users is partly sour grapes - they've been providing a browser for ages, and always had a following - "Why the hell didn't they pick us?" they say. The reason they didn't pick Opera is because its user interface, while customizable, is way more *littered* at first startup and assumes everyone's a power user. The people who are switching to Firefox aren't mostly power users - they just want to "surf the web" and be done with it. They don't *need* the extra features of Opera, or at the very least not all of them, and so they can pick the extra features they do need via extensions. There's nothing wrong with Opera, but it's not built for grandma.

Actually, just to let you know, I had already said -- if this had been for anything else, yes, I would've done it too. Believe me.

My main point, however, was that it is incredibly stupid to post a thread because you changed software. It's like making a thread about how you changed from Trillian to GAIM -- It's something that not only doesn't warrant a thread, it's something no one cares about and shouldn't be a waste of a perfectly good ID number on such a stupid thread.

But whatever -- I'm sure you'll continue to think I made this because I hate FF (not that I don't -- believe me, I hate it just as much as always) but it's because of that and the fact that a) the poster is a retard and b) no one fucking cares about a single person switching to something else

Sonic: That's nice.

Xkeeper: True, nice, and pointless as this thread.

HyperHacker: Mozilla Suite has the works in Internet software. Firefox is only a browser.

Kitten Yiffer: Not everyone used IE. I've used Netscape since the 4.0 days. Then I got Mozilla 1.4 and Firebird 0.6, loved them more. Now it's just Firefox 1.0.x

neo: Look at Mozilla's Bugzilla It proves your point.

VN: Please don't confuse the terms "commercial" and "proprietary" thinking that they're the same. They are not.

Anyone using IE: Look at a rant from 7/27/04. Also on the same site, check out A New Browser

As soon as I read the topic title, I knew it was about firefox...

Seriously, I put the same line in my header when I made the switch...

Anyways, good for you...

Another thing... has anyone used this new... Konqueror browser yet?

It's not that new. It's a Linux browser that's been the official browser of the KDE desktop environment (I think) for quite some time now. Apple's Safari browser in OS X builds upon KHTML, the rendering engine, and they contribute to it (as they are required to).

Vystrix, Opera's biggest problem isn't that someone makes money selling it or that you can't look at the source. That's just politics.

Isn't hate a very strong word to use for a browser, Xkeeper??

Well, I certainly agree that this thread is fairly pointless, but each to their own.

I'm a Firefox user too, btw. I used to use Opera, until the Opera 6 release. I stopped using Opera because there were a few things in the release that weren't quite my cup of tea, so I got curious about other browsers and I found Firefox 0.6. I liked it, so I stuck with it.

If I were to choose a second preference, I'd choose Opera on my PC, or Camino on my Mac.

And (slightly off topic) I was really disappointed when Opera didn't make a browser to suit my PocketPC. I never found a good alternative to IE on that thing...

I never liked Konqueror much either. Version 3.3 has improved a lot on standards, and 3.4 is just getting better. There's still the whole thing about making it look like IE and doing the coloured scrollbars (but you can turn that off in Konqueror).

Whoa...I just noticed something odd. Are GIFs faster in FF? If you look at Jarukoth's Gir GIF in IE it is ALOT slower then it is in FF...Why is that? Is IE more of a power house then FF so it's slower in IE???
