Which picture is better? I ripped off the symbols off of some site and made it say Nebetsu. So which one do you like the best?

Rather than saying you "ripped off the symbols off of some site", how about you link to that site?

After all, if their work has gone into yours (and I'd go as far as to say is the entire basis of yours) don't they deserve to be credited?

Happy?

Also: The picture just means Nebetsu in Japanese.

Yes I am happy now, but I have to admit, I didn't like the... tone (if there is such a thing) there with your response.

But yes, thankyou for giving us the link to the original stuff. It's important that they are credited, and it's a good courtesy to us to let us know as well.

Wow... Japanese is really complicated to write. Hooray for simplicity!

That's a pretty useful site...

Yeah... it is... I probably should have posted it to start with.

Images can be poll options? When was that implemented?

Number 2 as they are, but I think it could use a little more spacing. Something between 1 and 2.

It is useful. This other site I was looking at seemed pretty inaccurate. (Mainly, I'm assuming, because of Windows problems. I can't type 'wi' or 'we'. )

Anyway, which one is best depends what you're gonna use it for.

Hiragana huh?...The bottom one, unless you want to follow a more western style, I'd go with the vertical text read aligned to the right somewhere.

That, and I'd wonder what you're going to use it for...if it's not for a letter or something like it.

Tamarin Calanis: Yup. Just put in the html code.

Yomiko: It's just for my MSN profile picture and maybe on avatars on some forums. Also: Where should Hiragana be used and where should Katakana be used?

Hiragana are used for:

* Japanese words for which there are no kanji, for example particles such as kara から and suffixes such as ~san さん.
* Japanese words for which the kanji form is not known to the writer, not expected to be known to the readers, or too formal for the writing purpose.
* Verb and adjective inflections, for example in tabemashita 食べました (used like this, hiragana are called okurigana 送り仮名 ).
* Giving the pronunciation of kanji for readers who may not know them (used like this, hiragana are called furigana).

Katakana are used for:

* Onomatopoeia, for example hii ヒー means "sigh".
* Names of animal and plant species.
* Transcription of words from non-Chinese foreign languages (called gairaigo). For example, "television" is written terebi テレビ. Foreign phrases are usually transliterated with a middle dot separating the words.
* Emphasis, like italics in English. In this case it can also mean "words spoken by a foreigner", or "with a foreign accent".
* As furigana, giving the pronunciation of a word written in roman characters, or for a foreign word which is written as kanji for the meaning, but intended to be pronounced as the original.

(All hail the great and powerful wikipedia!)
