Welllllllll...No it doesn't Kario. The AIDS virus never passes through condoms. The HIV virus does. And that is an extremely rare occurance. And I can tell you oodles about the man.

As for this, I disagreed with the Pope on a lot of issues. Such as the forceable centralization of power back to Rome. The process of basically undermining the Conclave was nasty and the ways he did things were a little down and dirty, but given the waning influence of the Church after the rapid deaths, and his attempted assassinations, it was a necessary thing.

But the one thing that made him fall in my eyes was his dismissal and attempt to ruin Bishop Oscar Romero.

As for the GOOD things he did, which are many. Actually denouncing Hitler was a good move, I believe that Hitler became an official excommunicate during John XXIII or during the final Pius. I also liked his hardline stance against Western greed and against Eastern Bloc Communism. His movements against the death penalty, his movements to stop poverty (which I'm sad to say have failed) and his beatification of many people. He's done lots of other good things, like reconcile the Church with Islam, and the Orthodox branch of Christianity. He even made moves to make amends to the Anglican Church. He was a peacemaker and good socialist with good Christian ideas.

As for you Furu. WRONG. There have been nearly 100 Popes that aren't Italian. There are something like 202 Italian Popes though. He was the first Slavic Pope, though. Which is one of the reasons why I loved his Pontificate.

Rest in peace Karol.

On the topic of succession, we're not going to have a so conservative Pope again for a good time. The next Pope is going to model himself after my beloved John XXIII or Paul VI. A lot of talk is fingering towards the Honduran. My personal want is for the Belgian or the Cuban.

edit:: meet the likely next popables.

I think the next pope being black would be speculation. I haven't heard anything and they don't officially start the search for a while.

I know they don't want to pick a pope too old. Cause the pope just before this one (Pope John Paul I) died in 30 days. He was a little too old I guess. So that prompted them to pick the current one. Cause he was younger compared to the other. Not 20 or anything but certainly not too old either.

The average length of a rule for a Pope is only about 5 years. This is the third longest reigning pope in history.

As for the black thing, they don't "search" for popes. They elect them through the College of Cardinals.

John Paul II was the first non-italian pope in the past 455 years?

anyways, here is an article by BBC that outlines what is going to happen in the next few days: What happens now that John Paul II is now gone

Sobering news, but hardly surprising.

I don't watch much TV and my internet was down all weekend, so I am only just catching up wtih this now, but I remember that he was read his last rites last week, so was more or less expecting news of this nature.

Hmm... now, I'm just trying to remember something.. according to Nostradamus, was it after the death of this Pope that the third anti-christ rises? Or am I getting all my doom and gloom fearmongering upside down?

Oh, THAT. Well, it is after the fall of the true Pope after the death of the last Pope where the herald of the Anti-Christ trumpets to the Vatican. But let's not digress and discuss bullplop.

But bullplop is fun to discuss. Particularly if you can scare some easily-led people in the process.

But yeah, anyways, back to being serious. Um... yeah, sobering news. I honestly can't say that I am really affected too much (as opposed to how a Catholic person may well be feeling about this), but it's still sad.

The next Pope won't be an American. That's pretty much the only thing you can take to the bank. (Which is a shame, as apparently there's a really good candidate from the States who wouldn't be a bad choice - but he's American.) It could be a favorite, or it could not be - the saying is that whoever enters the Conclave as a Pope leaves as a Cardinal.

And I wouldn't dwell on the bullplop. Nostradamus has been wrong quite a few times before, you know.

The last BIG end of the world scare was way back in 1789, where they believed that the rise of Revolution in France was signalling the end of the Reign of God on Earth. But we all know that the world didn't end for anyone but the aristocrat oppressors.

The Anti-Christs are supposedly either Kubla Khan, Mohammed, Augustus Caesar, Emperor Nero, Napoleon, Stalin, Hitler, Lenin, Karl Marx or an endless menagerie that millenarists have cooked up.

Colleen: "Whoever enters the Conclave thinking to be Pope leaves knowing he is a Cardinal"

Although Oulette and Turcotte are getting some pretty big support in Europe...Turcotte is seen as a fairly large dark horse, whereas Oulette is seen as a very viable successor. Really, everyone is just as confused as the next person when it comes to Vatican succession and papbility.

Mmm, althought a war did break out around the predicted date in 1999. Not like it's a co-incindence since it was a rather "small and unknown" war. I don't even recall where in the world that war was in.

The pope have a such influence over the world, or at least the catholic part of it. And religion does have a such big influence on politics.

Intresting to read that the average pope is a pope for five years.

...and when is the next doom nostradamus predicted? He predicts doom after doom. xD

Not to sound mean but I really dont care. Only things I am happy about is, he is with God and he served God with his time on Earth. I think people look at him too well. Sure he led the Catholic church and yes I am Christian but I mean I dont think I would look at anyone that high besides God himself. Some people thought that he was the Anti-Christ. Which I thought was odd. Dont get me wrong he was a very great guy and did great things. But looking at himself as the "head" is well selfish really. I look at all preachers the same. I look at them as great people who have influences on the nation/world.

Last comment: May God have mercy on his soul. RIP 1920-2005 Pope John Paul II!

I'm sorry, but the doctrine between "Christian" and "Catholic" are very different. In the Catholic Church there is a set hierarchy that is top down. The Pope is the effective leader. And him being the Vicar of the Roman Church, the Archbishop of Rome, the Pontifex Maximus and other such titles is hardly selfish. Also, since he was democratically elected from the Cardinals. By your logic, world leaders are selfish if they see themselves as the democratically elected head of their nation.

Ok hes been the Pope for a while here. Your looking at it from the time he was elected. I know the "Cardinals" elect him. I just dont look at anyone as such a person like that. And I know the Catholic religion pretty well. Thought im not really Catholic and Luthran. I am Penicostal.

Christian and Catholic are not much different. Different concepts on how they worship but not much different.

Then you arent either. If you are a Christian or a Catholic and have studied the opposite religion, you would realize they have lots of differences.

Luthran and Catholic and Penicostal = Christian!
