I have no idea why, but the wheel on my mouse doesn't work under Windows 2000. It's fine on 98. I've tried that whole "look for wheel" option too. The mouse has no brand name or model number on it either. What should I do?

maybe you should start up win2k without a mouse. and then shut down the computer and start it up with a mouse and hope that windows will reinstall the mouse with a wheel. if that doesn't work, then well, i'm not sure what else you can do except to see if BIOS has mouse settings and try to disable that. btw, is your mouse USB or PS/2 or serial? |

You most likely (without knowing) have 3rd party drivers for your mouse installed in Win98, and you need these for the wheel to work (for example, my parents have a Logitech WheelMouse, and it needs the Logitech drivers to work right). Otherwise, try searching by the FCC ID and find the manufacturer and model, then go to their site for drivers. |

Also some programs don't like certain wheels. For example, Visual Basic won't respond to mine by default. If I install the support app for it, VB detects it, but now Lunar Magic no longer responds to it.

It's a PS/2 mouse. There's no visible FCC ID, but it has some other numbers I don't understand. UL listed: E1347802G55ITE BPCS# : 281-00002-000 Model: MOSUK US pat no. 5,557,450 Germany pat no. G9317838.7 Altough it has no manufacturer mentioned on the case, this came with an NEC computer. The scroll wheel clicks when you push on it and should be working as the middle button, but isn't. |
