There have been like 20+ spam accounts made in the last two hours or so. What the hell is going on? Is someone bringing people here to mess with us?

This happens too often, but at least it isn't as crazy as it was with Ninja AE...

We need something that at least hinders thoose "spam-accounts" like an limit how many that can register from an certain IP.

a proxy is where you use another computer's IP address to be your own IP address. therefore, IP ban would be rendered useless if a person uses a proxy and changes the proxy if they get ip banned...

True, but hopefully the "registeration" spammers are probably to lazy to change proxy each time they get IP banned.

But the restriction that I thought up would stop most "re-registration" spams.

hmm...looking over your proposal has one flaw: someone using an IP that someone abused before that person used it. say, someone before me used IP 169.254.95.99 and the limit was 5 accounts and maxed the 5 in 5 minutes. Therefore, the next person who was IP 169.254.95.99 and wants to register is out of luck...

Therefore, a reg cap is a good idea, just as long as it isn't a permanent one.

Proxies. If they exist, this kinda of stuff will continue happening.
Of course that register.php could be improved a lot...

The lamer's IP kept changing last night (and it was always proxies with no hostname), so IP banning was pretty useless ... I even tried cookie bans (set a cookie that did ipbanned=1), no help either And I deleted at least 10 more of those crap accounts before I went to bed and he registered 20 more ...

And yes, someone seems to be quite obsessed about exploiting all the security holes he can find or at least causing trouble, since a few weeks

What's the point?

Why do they bother? Do they think they're cool, because they act like morons? So stupid and annoying.

Talking about security holes, someone had fun with my test board and created like 2000 accounts. Even if I can delete them all easily through the hosts mysql tool, it's maybe an good idea to delete the board fully. I don't use the board and none else does.

It's an old version of Acmlmboard. So he probably used an bug which is fixed in the later ones.

All I want to know, why are he/she so obessed about annoying us?

They evaded a cookie ban? I didn't think people who do lame account spamming would be intelligent enough to do that. We may be dealing with some sort of strange super-lamer.

One way to help this board's registration process is probably make it so users are required to have a valid email address in order to register, and login and post. But there are probably ways around it too.
