OOC: Here I'm introducing my soon-to-be most powerful character, Ghost. If you wish to challenge him, I'd suggest using a strong character.

This intro might be kinda long. Argh! Sorry . It's cool though.
----

It was at midnight in a dark, gloomy cemetery. A low fog hung over the ground, and out of it the tops of it countless gravestones stood crookedly. Surrounding this graveyard were hundreds of tall pine trees, and in the low light they all blended into one thick, black wall, obscuring the view of anything outside of the area. The bright, full moon provided a decent light over the creepy area.

In the middle of the graveyard, there was a circular clearing, and in the center of it stood one tombstone, one bigger than the rest.

In front of it, in the air, a dimentional gateway opened up! It was blue and fiery, and in the form of a flat circle. Out from it, a figure was limply spat out, who fell to the ground lifelessly. Then slowly, he started coming to. After a few minutes, he rose to his feet.

This figure wore a strange costume. It was black, with a dark turquoise 'X' on the front that stretched from each shoulder to the sides of his waist. The arms of the suit were also turquoise, ending in tan gloves. The pants were a deep blue at the top, with the bottom parts of the legs colored black and the cuffs ended in a zig-zaggy triangular cut out pattern. The most noticable part was the mask. It was a dark blue one, with a stitched mouth bowing down, and two black, circular, emotionless eyes. Looking inside them, one would only see darkness. The back of the mask came to a zig-zagging point, like this: /\/\/\ , and at the tip of it floated a blue flame.

The figure turned around and surveyed the area. The tombstone in front of him caught his attention first. Bending down to observe it, he noticed that centuries of age had worn it down, and the name and date were no longer readable. Still, he knew it was his own grave. What he didn't know, or remember, was anything from his past life. What a pain.

Ghost (he is to be called that now) did know that he was sent back from the netherworld to complete a task, but he didn't know what task that was yet. He would need to figure that out in his time in the living world. For now, however, he was given a chance to try out his abilites in combat. Another portal opened up in front of him, and out of it another figure was violently spat out.

Who was it?

Out comes a figure in a dark blue full cloak, with hood raised. Who or whatever it was...it landed on its feet, back towards "Ghost," about 15 yards away. The figure stops for several seconds...looking about.

"Good grief...second time a wrong turn has led to an inescapable portal to some place else. Now to figure out how to get back...."

The figure continues looking about.

"...haven't seen many cemetaries this big. This will be trouble before I get done...."

The figure slowly turns. It stops when its torso is at a 45o angle towards "Ghost." The left eye moves in the socket towards "Ghost," holds a gaze for a second, and finishes turning. It is a male Drow Elf, a bit under six foot. His dark blue cloak, pinned just below the neck, goes down the center of his body, ending about six inches above the heel, and covers his body. The countenance suggests wary curiousity. There seems to be a flash behind his malachite green eyes.

"And you are...?"

He waited a few moments before answering.

Ghost: Call me Ghost.

His voice was deep and hollow, and echoed off of nothing. He momentarily shifted his gaze at both of the swirling portals, then back to the elf.

Ghost: It seems apparent that someone wants us both here, and that combat is an unavoidable outcome. Are you prepared? HopefulIy so. I should need a good battle, to get re-aquainted with the world of the living.

Ghost stretched out his arms and rolled his neck around his shoulders.

Ghost: Go on, opponent, I give you the first move.

"Itching for a scrap, eh? I wouldn't have thought combat was unavoidable, until you felt it necessary to challenge."

Hastega

The drow made no movement...no hint of a hand turning under the cloak or anything of the sort. He just stood there as the spell went, no change in facial expression, shifting of weight, or change in the cloak's hanging. The drow looks at the center of Ghost's chest, a slight blue tinge to his eyes. He says something barely audible....

"Free-willed undead...unique...un-turnable, that'll complicate things...."

His voice becomes clearer a few seconds later.

"What do you here, if you needed reacquainting with the physical?"

Ghost: Being in a spiritual form in the Netherworld for as long as I have, the physical world is again unfamiliar to me. I thank you for lending me your time for a battle.

Having given the drow time to make a move, he started his assault, rather clumsily though. He stumbled to move forward a bit, and then felt his hands eminate with a ghostly charge. Two balls of blue, spiritual energy appeared in his palms. This charged attack would mainly affect the spirit of whom it hit, peircing through all defenses, though also deal fire damage to the target's body. He launched them at different times to his cloaked challenger.

"Eh...?" *thwack* "Hey...!"

The Dark Elf's body didn't seem affected at all...except the irritated look on his face from the first pulse. As the second approached, he suddenly opens up the cloak, draws a rapier, and parries the shot. Underneath the cloak are the kind of clothes expected of royalty, all with a base of a dark blue or black.

"Interesting...never seen that before."

The drow regards Ghost curiously.

"You indeed are something unusual. Yet I don't sense the kind of malice typical of free-willed undead...rather, I sense...confusion?"

He shifts, so that only his right side points towards Ghost, his left hand in a fist on his hip, and the sword in front, held with palm up, and the tip at Ghost's eye level.

(OOC: remember...he is hastened...double-speed)

Fire
Slowga

Upon impact...Ghost can tell that most Firaga blasts don't hit quite that hard. As the second spell approaches....

"What is confusing you?"

It appeared that Ghost made no attempt at all to avoid or block the spells sent at him. The fire struck him and knocked him back a step, but likewise to the dark elf, dealt no significant damage. The second spell easily hit him as well. Though the latter did affect him, he hardly seemed to notice.

Ghost: What confuses me? I wish I could get my thoughts clear enough to place numbers to the list. I have been summoned from the spirit world by someone, or something, for an unknown reason. I know not my purpose, though this might be explained after this battle. I suppose the first step to my quest on earth is to become aware of my abilities.

Ghost steps forward again as to attack, but before he can pull anything off, two more circular portals open up at either side of him. A mysterious weapon, like a cross between a spear and a staff, is produced from the portal to his right, and lands upright in the soil. Out of the portal to his left, a perfectly clear shield is tossed to the ground infront of him. He examines each of them carefully.

There is Doomsday, the staffspear of Flame, and Wrathguard, the shield of Spirit. Doomsday's sharp tip glows with a hollow blue flame, and at the other end of it, the casting end, five blade-like protrusions curve outward then in again, forming a large cage around an eternally lit fire. It is about six feet in length, and at its center is a shaft where the wielder could place their arm for a firm grip and excellent control. Wrathguard is simply a shiny, almost invisibly clear shield. Ghost, almost ceremoniously, fitted his right arm into Doomsday and equiped Wrathguard.

Ghost: ...So my arsenal has been significantly improved. I feel them speak to me...my blade craves to be thrust into the flesh of a foe, and my shield so desires to consume any attack thrown hither. I should answer the shield's call first. What is your name? Whatever it be, come at me again. I must see what I can do with this shield.

Ghost crouched into a ready position, with his shield infront of him, and his blade drawn back. Having been slowed down, he decided a defensive pose would be an appropriate strategy.

"...Steak is what I am called."

He stands staight up, leaving his en guarde posture. Seems to comment to himself again....

"Fire immunity...not typcial of an undead...no chance of using a Pyrolisk Gaze then...that large a shield...can't do much against that with this."

He sheathes the rapier.

"Whatever purpose you may have been called for might or might not be the purpose you choose to pursue. What higher, or lower, entities do you have ties to?"

(OOC: one hastened, the other slowed...4x)

With a quick shake of his right arm and fingers, many fragments, or speckles, of blue fly from Steak's right palm.

"Good to get that out of the system...."

Steak grins.

"Test the shield, he wants. Very well then...."

Steak dashes towards Ghost. At about 10' away....

Force Hit (specialized spell...depending on one's defenses, it could great damage or precious litte, if any. Regardless...it knocks targets about)

Given the angle, Ghost is sent sliding along the ground, still poised as before, his feet tearing up the topsoil, and smashes through a few tombstones...moving about 70 yards in a couple of seconds, if even. Steak struggles to keep up, even with being hastened...and can't quite do it. As Ghost's sliding slows and stops, Steak leaps about 10 yards into the air...as he passes over Ghost....

Thundega

Steak lands 10 yards behind Ghost.

"More interesting...what did you do in life? That would have to play some part in your being called here, and now."

As the blue sparks were shot at Ghost, all of those in his area were absorbed by his shield. Immediately afterwards, his blade flashed. Could it be that attacks absorbed by his shield power his weapon?

He couldn't do much after that, as he was knocked across the field by the force blow, then zapped with thunder. It took him a moment, but he emerged from the wreckage of tombstones around him, still generally high on stamina. Truth be told, Ghost was actually liking the excitement. As much as he could, that is, for being unable to feel extreme emotions.

Ghost: What a pest this is, being slowed down...

He eyed the tip of Doomsday for a moment, then swung his arm in an odd motion. It spun around on its shaft, so that now the staff side pointed forward and the spear backward. After this, he held up his staff arm to the sky, and without saying anything, a ring appeared around him, just for a moment. The slow spell was lifted. He again swung his arm, and the spear pointed forward.

Ghost: What did I do in life? ...I'm not sure. I...can't remember. Nothing comes back to me. I'll need to address this issue, later.
But for now, it's time I made an attack.

Ghost, with a bit more acquired grace (yet still slightly clumsily) charged at Steak and swung his moderately charged blade, which would deal Fire and Spirit damage.

Steak flinches from the hit, but doesn't seem too tore up about it.

"You're not the only here who's immune to fire...though I do like this pike you're using."

The drow quickly draws the rapier, landing a drawcut across the inside of Ghost's weapon arm, following it up with sticking the same spot with the point of the sword, all in one motion.

"You should address this now...I know that I cannot afford to lose myself, or what knowledge I've acquired...it's part of what drives me in battle...knowing that if I fall, I cannot pass on what I have learned, that the things only I know will be lost."

Steak whirled back from Ghost, drawing out his sword. He stands about ten feet away, with his left hand foward, palm up, and holding his sword in scorpion stance. A pearly sphere the size of a shooter marble coelesques an inch above his left palm, and bursts.

Holy

Ghost: What's this?

Right when the spell Holy is in front of Ghost, he disappears! The spell continues its path right past where he was, and hits a tombstone in the distance. Then Ghost reappears back in the same spot.

Ghost: What did I just do? It came as instinct to me...

Ghost turns his gaze to Steak, with a slight hint of resentment. That last spell could have really hurt him.

Ghost: Alright then.

Ghost again disappears. He isn't warping, though; if Steak has very good vision, then he would be able to tell that Ghost is still there, more or less. He had entered his spirit form, and while in this form, no physical attack and almost no elemental attack can harm him. Also, he becomes nearly invisible, and gains the power to fly. Being in this ghostly form, he can also pass through any object in his way. Ghost also brought Doomsday and Wrathguard into 'Ghost mode', so all of the same things apply to them.

Again, if Steak didn't have very good vision, he wouldn't be able to tell that Ghost flew right above him and drew back the sharp end of Doomsday to stick through his head.

"Ah hell...one of these types...."

A translucent blue tetrahedon comes together above Steak's left hand as the drow takes a knee, staring at the floating pyramid. He sheathes the rapier.

"Ya' know, that form can't dodge everything...takes bigger things to hit, but it can't dodge everything...."

A second later, the tetrahedron flashes red.

"There you are..."

As he whirls towards Ghost, his right hand outstretched, in an opalescent glow....

"...and at that close of range...."

Prismatic Spray (as per the 7th Lvl Evocation spell from AD&D)

"...you can't dodge this in time."

Ghost was shocked and confused to find that Steak's spell actually connected with him. It would take a spell of pure, raw energy to hit him in this form, and those are hard to come by, since they usually take the unpure form of light or fire and such. As unlikely as it was, he was hit, and just as it happened he reappeared in a puff of flame and fell to the ground. From here to took a few steps away from
Steak.

Ghost: I'm going to have to try harder than this if I hope to hit you.

He flipped Doomsday around to the staff side again, and rubbed it. It would no longer deal fire damage, just spirit.

Ghost: You may be able to block a fire spell, but spirit spells are different, since they go through all defenses. I believe only energy spells can counter them, but since energy is usually spent for offense instead of defense, blocking this would be very unlikely.

Ghost hung up his shield and gripped Doomsday with his left hand, and it started shooting a huge jet of blue, spirit charged stuff. The beam was about two feet in diameter, and traveled until it hit something, which usually just disappeared after that. He countinued shooting this beam for about ten seconds, following Steak with it the whole time, so if Steak were to move, Ghost would still be firing at him.

"Yipe...!!"

Steak is struck...and rolls out of the way...hand aglow with a familiar opalescence....

Prismatic Wall (as per the 8th Lvl Evocation Spell from AD&D)

Steak examines himself briefly. His aggrivation is clear, even through a Prismatic Wall.

"Enough...should've done this sooner...."

His voice changes, as he leaps above the *very* tall wall...seeming to hang some as he descends at Ghost....

"Everlasting flame of blue...let the power hidden in my soul be called forth here from the infinite...."

Ra-Tilt (as per spell from the anime series The Slayers. Note this isn't fire-aligned)

The dark elf lands, blue semi-transparent spheres about the size of softballs enveloping his hands...a condensed magick power...clearly preparing his next volley, in case that wasn't enough.

Ghost becomes transparent and floats out of the way of Steak, then quickly materializes and shoves his spear at him. Right afterward, he becomes transparent again, flies through him, and swings his blade once more. He continues reappearing and attacking Steak at random angles at a shockingly fast speed until stopped by an attack.

After this, though, he's a bit drained...

Steak takes a hit...and another...and another...and loses his temper....

"You should've been destroyed...you are the only non-living thing, or creature tied to a different plane, that wasn't destroyed by a Ra-Tilt...."

The charge about his hands turns to a spheric charge about his person...clearly not in great shape...but also clearly ready to using the big guns, so to speak. The red tetrahedron still rotates about. The charge, it seems, has a bit of pull to it....

"Go ahead...I know you can't dodge the first...which'll force you back into corporeal form...and at this close of range..."

Solidify Spirit (nearby non-corporeal undead become corporeal briefly...that would include Ghost's "transparent" form)

"...it ends."

The glow about Steak turns...pearly...as Ghost returns to the physical, facing Steak's outstretched hand an inch from his face...the power seems to focus at that point. At the moment of Ghost becoming physical....

Judgement (as per the FFVII summoning of Alexander...except, the spell originating from Steak's hand).

The spherical aura begins turning opalescent....

OOC: ;;;;; Never...played it...??? I'm surprised...okay...I suppose I should explain most of these spell then.

Judgement - normally requires summoning Alexander. Casting it otherwise is much more costly in terms of MP. The spell targets multiple enemies, and pops them with a heavy barrier-piercing Holy-aligned attack.

Ra-Tilt - strongest Shaman spell from the anime series The Slayers. It is an attack from the Astral Plane (likely falls under what you describe as Spirit attacks), and from that it is incredibly effective against demons and undead...tends to destroy both on the spot. Does next-to-nothing to things still alive.

Prismatic Spray - from AD&D...7th Evocation. Creates a sizable wedge of intersecting light rays, the colours of the rainbow. There is no dodging this in the area of effect; non-corporeal undead, etc., are struck. Depending on what colour struck will change what happens...it is easily possible to be struck by multiple rays. Red...fire damage, 3 times that to kill a normal person (saving throw for half). Orange...acid damage, 7 times that to kill a normal person (save for half). Yellow...lightning damage, 12 times a normal person (save for half). Green...instant death, save for stark Constitution penalty. Blue...total irrecuperable insanity (save for negate). Indigo...petrification (save for negate). Violet...instant transport to another Plane of Existence (save for negate).

Prismatic Wall - from AD&D...8th Level Evocation. Creates a sizable wall, radiating the colours of the rainbow. Low-level creatures within 20 ft. are blinded for several minutes if they look at it. The caster can pass through the wall un-inhibited, as can things on his/her person...though any magic-based status (i.e., slow, haste, barrier, auto-life, etc.) are stripped off. Other objects get destroyed immediately. A magic disjoining spell (very rare...very high level magic...I only know of one from all I've come across) can bring down the wall instantly, as can a rod of cancelation (which will also destroy the rod), though anti-magic fields cannot penetrate it. Bringing down the wall otherwise must be done colour-by-colour, in consecutive order, by hitting the wall with the proper spell. A creature or whatever touching the wall (this includes non-corporeal undead, etc.) inflicts the effects of all the colours still active, just like taking the rays from a prismatic spray. Until the violet layer (the bottom-most layer) is down, no attack (save those that can strike gods) can pass through the wall in either direction. There is a specialized version of this spell at 9th Lvl., Abjuration/Evocation. NOTE: Steak never struck Ghost with this...just used it as a defense.

Ah, phew, now it all makes much more sense. Now, as we were.
-----

Ghost gets stuck right in the face with the powerful Holy spell, and immediately goes into a spasm of switching into and out of his ghost form. He staggers over and falls on the ground, right next to a tombstone, where his left arm fades out quickly and goes through it. It materializes again, getting stuck through the stone. Ghost curses at this, and pulls his arm up with the tombstone still through it. As he is thinking of what to do next, he notices the floating tetrahedron and decides to attack it by swiping his blade at it a couple of times, with the hopes of stopping Steak's prismatic spells. He follows this up by swinging his arm quickly and disappearing, launching the tombstone that was stuck in it right at Steak. He pulls out his shield again.

Steak stops for a moment, confused, watching the swipes pass through the tetrahedron that's been letting him detect Ghost's exact location.

"You're attacking a simple enchantment...with a physical weapon...? Normally people cast dispell magic, but...okay...."

Steak mostly got out of the way of the tombstone...his outfit a bit torn from the old granite. A flicker behind his eyes, and...

Levitate Other

"Playtime's over...!"

Ghost is lifted 15 ft. into the air. Steak jumps up to being on level with him as the opalescence solidifies at the peak.

Prismatic Sphere (9th Lvl Abjuration/Evocation spell from AD&D)

Ghosts sees all the colours of the rainbow swirling and dancing around him, finding himself almost as the exact center of a sphere with a 10-ft. radius. The light is glaring. Gravity pulls Steak back down, slipping through the sphere...his hastega enchantment finally stripped from him, and audibly crashlanding. Outside the sphere, Steak pushes himself up to all fours, breathing heavily, with the prismatic sphere a few feet above him. Solidify Spirit wears off.
