Yeah Colleen, small dogs aren't that much of a hassle. And there is nothing wrong with taking a walk now and then... althought I do prefer cats more. Having grown up with two dogs that gives full attention each time you come back from school, well it get's tiring for me.

I can't stand spiders. Never have, odds are never will.

I've personally always wanted a dog. A BIG dog. Like a Lab or a Husky. I don't know about you, but all the walking and doggie slobber is half the fun for me.

...what's wrong with spiders? I mean, as long they're not the big scary ones I don't mind them in my house. And they catch flies and other flying insects that I find annoying...

Oh hell no spiders are so out of the question. I have a HUGE fear of them that I run just by seeing a little one. *shudders* Other than that I wouldn't care what kind of animal I get. I already got three kinds of animals; six cats, one dog and three ferrets.

w00t...glad to see other cat people in this thread.

A quiet little dog might be OK, but I just don't have any particular affinity towards dogs like I do for cats. I like other people's well-behaved dogs, though.

And here's another interesting "no way" pet for discussion: a raccoon. Living with one is like having an extremely hyperactive toddler with sharp claws. Seriously...I read a site on raccoon care a while ago, and they said that the raccoon must have its own bed (with a mattress and pillows and everything) and toys, otherwise it will tear up your stuff (and it probably will anyway - they said they have a carpenter and upholsterer on retainer). They seem like nifty animals, but I wouldn't want to constantly have to worry about getting my house wrecked.

Having a spider would pwn.

But since it isn't the point of the thread...

A dog, I've had about 4 in my life, 3 of which I hated and one that was pretty cool.

Cats are just better, in my opinion (love my 3 cats).

Personally, if I ever get a home of my own, I'm going to have a cat and turtle as pets. But I hope either of them don't decide to go mess it up on me now. Pets are great to have, but they can be a messy hassle at times.

But now... the pet that I wouldn't want is probably... some insect. I mean, it would be kind of pointless to keep one around, because they don't really live too long. Eh, what a lame choice... Don't worry, I'll find SOMETHING unique, but I'm still thinking here...

Anything that craps/pisses uncontrollably I can do without. Not that I don't like animals but most dogs will do that and look at you like, "Did I make a mistake?". Cats are well trained at that sort of thing but mine has had a few little accidents before. Little fuzzy turd factory!

Birds. I've had five total on my life, and they're cool and all, but I wouldn't want to keep having to take care of them and the have this odd smell to them. I really didn't have to worry about cleaning the birds' cage, since I was a kid (besides, I helped with the dogs and cats anyway).

Oh, I love cats to. I remember this one time when I visited my grandma. She had like...7 cats and they all ran towards me when I showed up. Some where rubbing against my leg and some where meowing at me.

Perhaps they were happy to see me.

uh... Dracoon, that was redundant. See, birds aren't mammals anyway. =/

No dogs, birds, fish, hamsters, lizards, snakes, cats, or other pets. Not an animal person. I can tolerate cats, though.

Just think about this. What would aliens think of us raising pets? I mean, you have a dog walking along and you pick up its shit. You clean the cat's litter box for it. You do similar maintenance, I'm sure, for other pets. Who would they think is in charge, the animals or us?
