What the fuck is a "Manhandla"?

I know it's from Zelda lore, but just look at it...

I mean, it could even be a verb. Ex:

"Hey Bob, what was up with that chick yesterday?"

-"I know man, when we tried to manhandla her, she sprayed me with mace."

It's a plant, that wiggles. Or does it.

It excels at manhandling because of its 4 manhandlas. So they called it Manhandla.

It's in the first Zelda too, just dosen't have that Buzz Bob underneath. It's one of the more annoying bosses in the first Zelda.

I hadn't seen that one, but I guess that one is from Links Awakning or any of the oracle games.

I don't know it's behavior in Links awakning, but in the orginal NES game that created bumped around in a little room. You had to defeat the mouths which could take two hits. And whenever you destroyed a mouth it bumped around in the room faster... which made the last mouth hard to defeat. (at least when I played Zelda the last time)

In the original Zelda it looks nothing like it does in the Oracle games (where that pic is from), incidentally.

As far as I can tell, they just randomly look a word and put an A at the end in place of the E.

Also it shoots fireballs.

Very good question.

In the Oracle games, Manhandla was part Buzz Blob, and this was primarily to make use of the Magic Boomerang in a frantic battle situation. It behaves just like Manhandla, but has extra electrical defense.

Actually, the 'body' of Manhandla in other games (it shows up in FSA too) is rather 'blob' like in the first place, so it's not that bizarre. Just gives the boss an extra element to it, rather than just having to take out it's heads. It also made it impossible to hit the heads with a sword.

As for the name... No bleedin' clue, but the monster was originally called 'Testitart' in Japan. They may of changed the name because of how close it was to 'testicle', I guess. O.o'' However, Manhandla may relate to the fact that it is a 'man-eating flower'. Man-eating, Manhandla. That's the only thing I can think of.

Hardly any enemies in the original Zelda had changed names. The only other one was Darknut, which was originally known as 'Tartnuc', or 'Tartknuckle'. No idea what 'tart' is meant to mean in Japan, but interestingly 'tart' is also in Manhandla's original name. You can see why they would of changed the names.

Yeah, but they *did* change Darknut's name back in Zelda II... they just changed "Tart" to "Iron".

The body seems to be more spiny in the original Zelda. With 4 Pac-Man's as heads.

Tartnuc to Darknut in two easy steps!

1. Change the first T to a D. The sounds made by them are quite similiar, so "meh." You get "Dartnuc."

2. Swap the T sound with the C sound (and change letters accordingly). You get "Darknut."

No, Ironknuckles are not Darknuts. They were called 'Ironnuc' or whatever the Japanese equivilent is. So they're obviously related to Darknuts but they're not the same. Darknuts are 'Tartknuckles', or Darknuckles.

Tard? It sounds like that. Hmm, Tardknuckle?

And I renamed Manhandla to Manhandler in my custom title long ago.
