We have this hardware/software shop called Excel, man, those employees never bother me anymore. Once someone was trying to sell me a wireless router, and even though I said I already had a router he kept insisting I should get a wireless one. So I trhew some "Yeah but that wouldn't work together with my Linux Distro just being updated by the ". He just said "oh ok" and left.

LOL@NSNick

Eh, Next Byte aren't all that hip I didn't think.... they just don't answer questions very well, particularly anything very technical. "Okay, and why is your Apple Cinema Display better than any other LCD screen?" "Um...er.. cause it's uh.. Apple.. and uh.. Apple is the graphics.. uh standard"

Last thing I want to hear is "It's durable cause it's Sony." (since well, Sony is not known for the durablity of their products...). Althought anti-platforms people are alot worser than pro-platforms ones, I seen alot of bigoted opinions about Macintosh and Linux since it's so diffrent and hard to use. Linux is not hard, just... well you need a good reference sheet the first time.

Been thinking on buying a Mac mini but then, heh. I tend to play alot of games so that's matters, i'm leaning towards Linux with Wine/Cedega and stuff like that.

Once I asked a tricky people to OS's zealot, I asked what is bad about their OS's. Most of them didn't want to answer... *rolleyes* no OS is trouble free. Or can do everything...

I find I don't usually have a problem with salesmen being annoying like that. If they get to be particularly pushy I either just let them know I know what I'm talking about, or if that doesn't work, out-techno-babble them. The only thing that really bugs me is at Radio Shack, if you stand still for like 20 seconds they're all over you with the "can I help you?" stuff, even when it's clear I'm looking at something in particular. Like I've been there dozens of times, and it should be obvious when I make my way to the resistors and LEDs as soon as I walk in and start comparing item numbers to a list that I probably know what I'm looking for better than they do. I know it's not really their fault, more a store policy thing, but it's still pretty annoying.

This salesman at Futureshop refused to sell me Feel the Magic XX/YY for the DS because the manuals didn't have a french version... I'm like... "I speak both languages, and I'm not even going to read the manual! YOU HAVE 15 OF THEM RIGHT NEXT TO YOU JUST SELL IT TO ME AAAAH"

"No, we're sending them back to the supplier tonight!"

I guess it has to be illegal or something... What's amazing is that the games themselves aren't translated to french here, they're all north american, so it doesn't make any frickin difference.

God damn.

I guess this is more of a complaint against the Quebec language regulations, but I still think it was stupid on their part to have the games on display but refusing to sell them

They're pretty nice though, last time I bought a wireless USB adapter (the staples commercial about wireless USB adapters is funny, but I'm going off-topic), and it was "open box" -- the price was dropped from $60 to $50, then I went and asked if everything was still in it, so we checked together, and we discovered there was a missing cap to protect the USB connector, and no drivers CD, which absolutely didn't matter, and he dropped the price to $40!

Hooray, I guess.

Generally, when something is sent back to a supplier they want the retailer to send the whole batch... they don't appreciate it if the retailer sells a few and returns the rest. Course, that's not the best for the customer when they can't buy something that's right there, but that's often how it works. Maybe Future Shop didn't think enough people can read English for them to sell 15 copies

Probably a devout Christian mother (no matter if it was a man, somehow) with really young kids.
...Those kinds of people can be total pricks sometimes.

I've never had such bad horror stories happen to me, thankfully, but it's because I know what I'm shopping for. Besides, there's both an EB and a Game Stop, with only a layer of... floor separating them. And as another side note, I dont usually shop for anything complicated, either.

Her kids were teenagers, by the way.

I've also had people into the store who thought we sold photo albums and clock alarms.

But what takes the cake, is a guy who asked one day, "Do you sell video games here?".

They shouldn't have seen a certain volleyball game then, Project rub or Feel the Magic XX/YY as it's called in US is a game that I would let my parents to play without problems. It's just suggestive at times, but more in that soft and artistic way and not that... well.

I'm one of thoose consumers who usually is looking for something in shops, I seldom impulse buy and I never do it with at least some backround information. (like with Advance wars, I saw it new for very cheap. I knew someone liked it very much so I bought it myself )

Kiwi: I don't know the specifics of that law. I think that any game which CAN have a French manual needs to have one when it comes to video games (computer games are different because you can sell English/French versions in many cases). Many of Nintendo's games have English/French sections of the manual to make it easier.

Man I should yell at EB for selling me the French Canadian copy of Street Fighter Anniversary Collection...The one with absolutely NO fucking English.

Now I have to actually work to remember all that shit I learned back when I was bilingual, but haven't had the ability to use for something like three or four years.

In Sweden there is no laws about what langauge the manual/software/whatever have to be in. English is always perfectly fine. Keep in mind that English is not a offical language in Sweden, althought it is obligtory to learn in the School.

Althought most games have Swedish manuals, with a few expections. I even seen a Swedish manual for Starcraft, which was kinda wierd to read. But the software seldom get's translated, save for a few EA games such as The sims.

I don't get why they translate the manuals but not the games, especially for games with a lot of reading. I had a copy of Final Fantasy, the game is completely English and has loads of text, but it still came with a frickin' huge manual entirely translated to French. Why would someone who doesn't speak English be playing this game?
Also, if I was that guy, I wouldn't have mentioned the manual. Just say they're all defective or something.

The GameStop here's not too bad. They won't bug you unless you ask a question, and when you do ask they answer it. Mom's checks never work there, though. They work everywhere else...

Well, that's the one outside the mall. The one in the mall... eh, I doubt many people there know anything about games. =/ We still go there because mom's on some stupid crusade against the one outside the mall - note that she can't use checks here, either. Nevermind that they have better selection and more intelligent and friendly employees (and, is also the one I hope to get a job at very, very soon) outside the mall... I'll stop before I stray further off-topic.

Edit: Holy fuck that was a big mistake.
