The scary thing is, some Science fiction authors actually had predictions of things we have today. Just aren't fully correct.

And sometimes technology goes faster than people predict, who knew that the computer harddrive would reach 80 GB in size and the processor 2 Ghz?

In the 80's 10 MB was alot.

Yea, we're definately not evolving anywhere.
I have 2 words for anyone who thinks we've evolved a single day since the Spanish Inquisition: Patriot Act.

And if anything.

Humans probably will genetically modify themself in the future (like taking abilities from other animals/plants, mmm catgirls). Which is kinda intresting in a way. And scary...

The next bounds in evolution will not be organic, but synthetic. Nanotechnology and artificial technonogy are reaching leaps and bounds. (Rich) humans of the future will have the ability to exhcange body parts for much longer lasting computer controlled ones. All that is needed is a sanctioning government.

I don't think we'll be Deus Ex cyborg but we'll have some mechanical parts to enhance certain abilities or to recover losses. (How about a prothese that can actually walk and simulate feelings?)

I think we're going to start looking alot like the stereotypical alien...short thing bodies with large heads and big eyes....which leads to me to a theory what if Aliens are just a more evolved form of humans?!!! *GASP!!!*

well, i'd agree more with Stephen Jay Gould, who said that evolution can be explained, but not predicted.

Humans have hardly evolved at all, mostly due to the fact that we don't need to, we could evolve towards being more complex creatures, but we could also evolve towards less complex creatures. Most people think that humans are the most adapted and evolved creatures on thsi planet, but that's not really true. Bacteria are capable of living almost anywhere, they have divided into millions of types and are much better adapted than any other creature, not to mention that there are way more of them than there are of us. Capable of evolving and multiplying at an alarming rate, it is possible that in the future we won't be able to keep up with them, and lose the ongoing battle.

If humans do get a burst of evolution in the near future, I think they would only gain more defenses against the microscopic world. Already today we have various bacteria working with us inside our stomach to protect against bad bacteria. the real next step in Human evolution is robotics, which could eventually evolve in its own species with the invention of Artificial Intelligence, and then you quickly end up with a matrix-like scenario..

basicly, if we dont kill each other, or invent A.I. that would eventually get rid of us due to our obvious uselessness, the bacteria'll get us. But you never know.. evolution being unpredictable, many things could happen that no one ever even imagined.

@Kitten Yiffer: We evolve into furries? ie. Catgirls? *KawaiiImoto-e imagines herself as a catgirl..

The human race will evolve, but how? I can't say.

If the siencecists can find a reasonable priced way for space travel, we be gonna be in for a lot. Like when back in 1500, the Portugese, Spain and other westeuropean countries begann with exploring the globe.

But the human has to fight with his egoism, the "That's my world" ect. Aliens just gonna *zapp* us. (No, Not Zap Branigam *shudderss*)

Maybe it's like in Ghost in the Shell, or more like Futurama, you'll never know.

But the basic human will remain the same. As it has for the last 1000 years. BUt what the human makes of itself, is another story. Technologie will make some more leaps, like the mentioned nano-technologie, and the vast storage Eta-bytes can give.

We ARE evolving...

More and more children are not growing wisdom teeth. Why? Because in the past thousand years they became obsolete. Also our jaws are becoming smaller and smaller... Think they pulled wisdom teeth a few hundred years ago? I don't think so...

And regarding telepathic abilities, yes, we're all gonna start growing antennas out of our asses, obviously.
