I've been a hacker for some time, I've decided to make a hack that I'll hopefully finish with the help of a hex editor.

I'm hacking Sapphire, so can someone tell teach me how to use a hex editor. If you use pictures, I'd be a lot happier.

I wish to know how to do this properly before I start "Pokemon Plaranite" for which I have a basic plan for.

(If you reply with a smart arse comment, You owe me ALL your cash. Yes, every last bit.)
edit:
Some of the sprites I'll be using [ Link - Up with my computer. ]

All my cash? Bite me you're being kinda vague in your post...teaching you to use a hex editor...you know, this REALLY needs to be stickied in ROM hacking or whatever. its EASY, but everyone is like, affraid of it. Just use the editor's go to offset feature (it is in the hex editor's help files, MIGHT have helped if you read one) to go to any offset you wanna edit (i'm assuming you got one from around here), and just change whatever byte you are told to change into another one. save, and you're done. REALLY not that hard. This applies to any game, not just Pokemon.

That doesn't help me too much.. I just can't seem to change any values.

uh...I don't see why you can't. You just type over them and save if you mean you aren't seeing a change, you probably changed the wrong byte or just didn't make that noticable of a change (for example, if you changed a Pokemon stat from a base of 01 to say, 03, you won't notice much of a difference )

well, why can't you do that? if you can type a sentence, you can type 2 numbers to change a byte. I use Hexworkshop, and I also got a crack for it so I don't have to worry about it expiring on me in the future. Googling for one is your best bet, but thats as much as I can lead you without breaking board rules.

SnesEdit is included in EliteMap. It's in German, but a single [F6] press fixes that.

I think the main problem here, is that no matter what hex editor you use, you must know what data is where, and in what format.

Really, it doesn't matter what hex editor you use. The problem's always the same. That's why we make our own editors, like FFHackster and EliteMap.

PS: Ever tried to hack using the built-in hex editor from Visual C++?
