Not exactly the kind of mental reactoin I thought I'd have...here's what happened tonight:

Went out with a dear friend of mine. I've had an interest in her for probably a year and a half, in spite of other relationships during this time. We went to the uptown Mexican restaraunt/cantina. She's never ate there. Dinner was...quite excellent. I got the only kind of beer I ever drink: root. Talking a bunch about a whole string of things. That was fun.

We decided to take a swing past the rec building next. Played two games of Horse...I got stomped (friggin' foul shots). Never was decent with basketball; this was to be expected. More of the random talking. After that, we hit the billards. This time I came out on top. Towards the end of this, she asked me to sing. I don't sing if I think anybody's in earshot. Not even for my mother. I felt myself blush when she asked. She kept poking at me about it...I've found that people think it's funny to make me blush. As such, my remaining shots deterioated in a real hurry. But she scratched on the eight (karma, I say). We left not long after that...her still wanting me to sing.

She drove me back to m' dorm, insisting that I sing something before I get out of the car. And she shut off the radio. So much for background and tone support. She tried to get me to start on the national anthem a few times, leading in (and yes, she can sing), and cutting out a few words later. The moment she cut out...so did I. Tried bundling up the confidence...one look at her, and I cracked up...losing the bundle. This went on for...well, it felt like a damn long time. I managed to talk her into turning on the radio...surfed for stations...found a bunch of songs I didn't know at all. And then, I was saved by John Lennon: Imagine. I did the best I could...the passenger seat of a car isn't exactly condusive for vocal performance, ya' know. She sang at times too. She said I had good tone. She gave me a hug goodbye, and m' brain said you WILL get something more than that for what you just went through...!!! So...started to speak...and found no words. I popped loose a question that had been itching inside me for quite the long time...I wanted to kiss her. This time she blushed. She let me kiss her on the cheek (hey, better than a "no"). Discussion. She's known that I've liked her like that for a long time. She said she really didn't want to be in a relationship right now. I hadn't brought it up since she had become a dear enough friend that I could to her about anything, and I didn't want to risk losing that. So...yeah. I got another goodbye hug, and a bit wider a smile than usual.

And somehow, after all that, I've found that I'm liking her stronger than I did before. That's...new...at least in my experience. Has this happened to anybody else? Do you guys have some insight about this?

I cannot say my situe went the same way, more of a freak accident. But I can honestly say that I'm glad for you. You had a good time and you got a small reward in the end. I'd say from the sound of things you handled it pretty well throughout your date.

Dude...I can feel ya--I'm in a similar position right now too. I've adored my best friend for a long time now. She knows how I feel about her but she just isn't ready for another relationship right now (her past three aren't very memorable in a good way). So, I'm here waiting but nevertheles, I can wait because I do really feel she is the one for me (or well, looking at the bigger picture, it seems that we are right for each other).

Anyways, yeah any time I'm with her, I just want to hold her and such but I really can't. So, I do what I can here and there and that gets me by. It's a good feeling isn't

That's really cool to hear. I guess I really can't say much since I'm still lovelorn over my recent ex bf. Except that I'm glad that you're willing to wait till she's ready to go out with you.

sorry to hear that Ziff... I guess she wasn't your type? I dunno, my dad got stood up by my mom once. So it isn't the end of everything... but I guess you've heard that lots of times now?

Maybe something just came up and she couldn't make Ziff.

Neo: I've heard that so many times in the past month from my friends and right now it sure feels pretty horrible still for me.

Yeah...that is sort of why I've stop giving advice often--because I always say the same things because they are fundamentally the same problem and the people I say it to know it already. But the advice never does any good because the pain is still there. All I can say to that is hold on and you will move on. Since for me, I was depressed for many years during high school until one day everything clicked and I got over it...
