I discovered that by setting it about .23 after your own time zone just about puts the clock even with a nicer time. For example, I'm normally -3 so I put -2.77 (note the negative) and it works wonderfully. (edited by FreeDOS on 03-13-05 04:13 AM) |

this has always been a solution to use these decimal offsets but people who bring this up about fixing never seem to follow this advice...

I did this for a long time ago, and even talked about it in Town square. Althought the clock is slowly going wrong... who is the responsible for server related stuff? We really wouldn't want it to die right? |

I don't pay much attention to the board clock, mostly I look at my computer's clock. It is rather annoying though, especially if I'm trying to determine how long ago a thread was posted in...

I'm starting to think the clock is actually slowing down... I got it right, but I never look at it anyway.

Hopefullt we can fix this whole clock problem. Not because of the time being off, but b/c of all the "clock" threads. Its starting to be a fad. *gasp*

Posting the decimal solution isn't anything new (I posted it here) but it only helps it while it remains broken... once they fix it, you'll time warp (=o)... Same if it gets broken again... this should really be fixed, all these stupid threads are getting on my nerves... |

...du'h Trapster, don't talk too much. The data dosen't get destroyed when the battery dies... the clock will be fucked up thought. We will just have alot of posts on one day, the clock may continue to go. But it will reset it itself whenver the computer restart...

If the clock battery fails, the correct time (or close to it) should still appear for a while. UNIXes don't depend on the hardware clock while they're running, they keep the system time running with a daemon. Though once the system restarts, the time'd be set to timestamp 0, which is 00:00 1 Jan 1970 UTC.

The problem is that if it did lose time altogether, everything that depends on time (which databases tend to do majorly) will get messed up. I've seen it happen elsewhere; all the new posts would show up as being made in 1970 and end up in random order at the top of the threads they were made in, but the threads would be moved to the very bottom of the list.

Well, mine is fine. I used the decimal thing before. Worked well, but is one minute fast. Can't be arsed decimalling out the minute. |
