I managed to check The Whirlpool on another computer. Seems there are no *complete* translations of any Fire Emblem games (not surprising, considering the complexity), but work is being done. Fire Emblem 6 appears to have a pretty decent translation.

Now, some news on the GC Fire Emblem, an update to the press page...

Game Storyline: Near a mercenary stronghold in Crimea, a kingdom on the continent of Tellius, a soldier named Ike rescues a woman he discovers to be the princess of Crimea. She reveals to him that the neighboring Daein kingdom has invaded, and she must travel to Gallia, home to the half-man/half-beast demihumans. War spreads across the continent as Ike and his swords-for-hire fight to protect the princess and confront headlong the racial tensions and prejudices that have torn a rift between humans and demihumans. As they fight, they learn the true reason for the war, as well as the mystery behind the very creation of their divided world.

Characters: Ike and fellow mercenary Tiamat. New units include "skinshifters" who can transform into beasts, and "taliesins" (temporary name), winged humans who attack from the air.

Demihumans. Kinda already knew about this but they appear to be a major factor in the game. AWESOME.

Alright, I'm planning to give Fire Emblem 4 some sort of a try, but it seems that finding GOOD translations is pretty painful with these games. The best I found for FE4 was an 80% version that died under one's group and was reborn by another. The other games were just... 20% and an even better 5%. Well, I'll try this game tomorrow to see how it works and stuff.

I'm pretty sure it won't be disappointing, but... I have had some expectations dashed like that before. *Remembers Starfox Adventures* Man... it was hard to come to terms that I spent $30 more than I SHOULD have.
