Gaelic would be interesting to learn, so would Polish. I need to find someone nearby to teach me one of the Scandinavian languages too, they're beautiful.

I feel like a nerd now, and I love it!

Yeah, Irish Gaelic is an interesting language. It's got some really weird inflections though, so in that respect it's often hard to read and write. But it comes to great use when you're in a foreign country and you don't want people understanding what you're saying. Ironically, today is the last day of Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Week). I always regret that there's not more done to encourage a week like this. Unfortunately, Irish is dying quite painfully, but I did hear that in recent years it has begun to recover a little.

The only languages I have idea of are:

1) Spanish: Well, this is my native language, I am from Colombia. I might say I'm pretty good at it, I mean, being a native speaker doesn't make you a GOOD one, but hey, I am.

2) English: This is taught at schools, but I must say I did learn most of it from videogames, or at least the vocabulary. I took some courses which really improved my grammar, and well, chatting the whole day on IRC does help you a lot.

3) Japanese: What I know about this is pretty basic, I can recognize hiragana and katakana, some kanjis used on videogames, some common phrases, but I could not create a sentence nor translate one.

I didn't know we had members from the Czech republic. Sound cool. I may visit that country this summer, as we're going south. In case you didn't know, this thread is old, and bumping an old thread is one of the things not to do, as mentioned in the FAQ. Just don't do it again, and you'll be fine.

Hi, my name is Sky Troopa. And who are you?

Not that I knew any Czech, but well, it's a Slawic language, and I am a native Russian, so it is more or less understandable for me~

Well, my complete list is:
- Russian (natively)
- German (could be considered natively as well, as I went to school for 9 years over here)
- English (it's up to you to judge)
- French (a little)
- Latin (quite well)
- Spanish (not too much of it, though)
- Basque (some few words I picked up during holidays in that region)

Also, I request 1337 being officially accepted as a separate language.

Jeez, some of you people have way too much free time.

In chronological order:
English: ~18 years experience.
Japanese: Eh, pretty much the same as KaOSoFt. Just memorizing the alphabet so far.

Short answer: English fluently/natively, plus a slight amount of German (certainly not fluent), and a handful of other languages and/or writing systems.

Long answer: I'm a native and very fluent speaker of English. I have had a few years' worth of German language instruction in High School, and it is my second-best-known language, though my skill at it has been declining in the time since I took those classes.

I also have (or have had) various cursory levels of knowledge of other languages and/or writing systems, including Esperanto (which I was briefly seriously trying to learn until I lost interest, and I've forgotten much of it), Katakana (one of the writing systems employed in the Japanese language), Hangul (the writing system of the Korean language), and the Greek alphabet (though not the Greek language), the latter of which was augmented by my work in performing the hacking part of the English-to-Greek translation of FF1.

One hobby of mine, for the last several years, has been the construction of my own language (a "conlang"); my username is an example of it in use. The language consists of a grammatical structural base, and a well-defined writing system, though it lacks vocabulary since I'm consciously trying to avoid "taking" words from other languages.

I can only speak English, really. I'm required to take a foreign language in school, Spanish or French, so I take Spanish. I don't really concider myself to speak Spanish though, since I'm not in the least fluent and I only know enough to somewhat get around if I was lost in Mexico or something.

I'm also trying to learn Japanese on my own, I plan to take a class at this place in our town a little later this year with a buddy of mine. I can write and read most katakana, but I don't know many words, or alot about the sentence structure and other important stuff...I'm still learning

my native language is german (i can only speak 3 out of over 16 different slangs we have including Hochdeutsch).
my school english sucked till i made some language trips (canada, australia). I see/read a lot of english books/movies and websites so im practicing hard to speak/write it fluent.
in school i learned Latin too (almost 5 years), but i can't even order a pizza!

I*m also able to affront people in french and spanish but i can't really speak the languages in "normal" situations.
