unfortunatly just english, and perhaps discerning the odd sentance or two in spanish, at least enough to get the gist of the message.

I feel this is an extremely dissapointing shortcoming of mine .I had thought about taking a class to learn japanese (wow, i feel so original ) or re-learning spanish (in one ear and out the other, as they say), but i have not yet acted upon those inclinations.

I'm sure that if a Norwegian, which also had learned some German, came across that, he wouldn't have to much of a problem understanding it. (Or a Dane, for that matter.)

I am fluent in English, learning Japanese, and proficient in Vietnamese.

If I had time, I'd pickup introductory Mandarin and Korean.

German - native language, though I have a Croatian passport. I was born in Germany.

English - relatively fluently. Improved a lot after reading some English books, working in a small hotel for a short time. Some nasty mistakes like a forgotten "s" or word order still annoy me.

Croatian - Enough to understand people and to write it. But I could improve, since except for my cousin most of my friends live here in Germany

French - Little knowledge. I don't like the language too much.

Latin - Meh, I used to know more
Ancient Greek - Ugh. I suck
French - I'm a little rusty, haven't used it conversation-wise in nearly 2 years
German - Teaching myself
Cantonese - ...I did take lessons for a year...

Others: There are more I've tried to learn, I just didn't have the time.

I'm impressed how many people actually take German.
It is one of the most unlogical languages ever (yes, I'm stating this), although there are also neat texts from the past
But the most books are better in the original version:
Dan Brown's Angels & Demons -> "Illuminati" here
The Da Vinci Code -> "Sakrileg"
Deception Point -> "Meteor" (that one fits at least )
Digital Fortress -> "Diabolus"

As for me, I'm trying to learn a little Japanese here

I speak English as my first language. I can also speak Irish practically fluently, and quite a bit of French. I also know bits of other languages like Italian, but I couldn't converse in them.

Oh, I really want to learn Gaelic. My stepdad speaks it fluently, it sounds very nice. However, I would probably never put it to good use seeing as I never go on vacation out of the US.

I speak English well. Spanish I've held conversations with others more fluent in the language online without them knowing that it is not my first language. Urdu(similar to Hindi) I understand a lot better than I can speak. Arabic I can interpret the characters but don't know what they mean.(Hopefully that will change soon) With other Germanic languages, I can basically understand the gist of what's going on. The same goes for Japanese. Just things I've picked up through Spanish, reading, and subtitles, respectively. And then there are a bunch of other languages where I know a few words or phrases.

I also know Ebonics and Jive.

English first and foremost. My French is OK, and Im learning Japanese now. I would like to learn Esperanto and Greek as well, though Croat is something I'd like to speak also, since my friends speak it all the time and it drives me crazy when I don't understand them

I know these:

Norwegian - First language.
English - I know English quite well. I have no problems with reading, writing and listening, but my spoken English = big nono...
German - Not too good at it. I find it hard, but I understand most of what I'm reading. I like the language in general, but I don't like to learn it.

Deutsch ist nicht einfach. Es ist viel zu viel Gramatik. Aber es ist wichtig zu lernen!
