This is the ACMLM's port thread for Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes, an adventure for the original CT team before the events of Chrono Cross. I will probably just release demos and stuff through here.

Here's the blurb:

Vanquished by seven magnificent warriors, Lavos has laid his head and submitted to the sands of the hourglass; the End of Time is now vacant, and each has returned unto his own era, hailed and received as heroes. Their valor is lofty, and their noble deeds range through the history of mankind, benefitting all with the gifts of their honored quest. While man may always be imperfect, and while some were lost during the effort to secure the salvation of the planet from the alien invader, countless lives have been saved, and the meaning and responsibility of life has once again been placed in the hands of human beings and Mystics alike. The threat has been removed, and the saints of the Chrono Trigger now labor to improve the state of affairs at home.

But the scope of time is never spotless; the spectre of bloody stains now lurks over it once more, as the full repercussions of the trails through time have come to bear. Unrelenting, the cold blizzards pound against the caves and hearts of prehistoric peoples. Unfound, a pure soul remains vanished from the warming tundras of antiquity. Unsuccessful, the knight continues to search for an heir to his legacy. And unabashedly, the nations of the south outfit their clothes with new weapons of war. Only in the future does hope gleam, where the exploits of science will soon afford man a gaze into the stream of time and a view into his past ? a vantage point already held by darker forces which, too, overshadow the victory over the apocalypse, and stand poised to introduce new scourges of bloodshed and unrest to history. They may be stopped, however ? if the heroes can once again unite; if they can escape and rectify the troubles of their presents, and join as one hand once more, defending and standing fast against the Crimson Echoes.

That's why I'm holding off on starting it full-swing; I have no real gauge of how much help I can secure, and I'm needed in so many other places.

But right now, I've simply advised future contributors to just mess around with Temporal Flux and review the plot in that thread, coming up with suggestions and whatnot. Temporal Flux is very much in the planning stages; we can implement a whole range of ideas. Chickenlump has a model for a battle coliseum, for instance.

Well, I guess I'll maintain a list of people involved. I'll have all sorts of jobs once it gets full-swing, including making a copy of the Middle Ages basic soldier sprite and palette swapping it to green and red versions for Choras and Porre. CE's just simply in very early stages, so I don't have a list of what i exactly need to do.

But I've got one thing. If anyone wants to mess around in Temporal Flux, clean up {01D} Prison Supervisor's Office, and using Palette & L1+L2 tileset zero, make a small town square. After the Millennial Fair, and due to the growing pride in a Porrean state, Porre has constructed a town square of it's own. I'm going to add soldiers and stuff later, and it'll be the site of a troop muster in the plot. Make sure it is on a fresh CT ROM, so I can simply apply an .ips patch to the CE rom backup. In theory, I think that should seamlessly integrate your work.

I don't want to look like I'm issuing orders here, though. As still a relative newb to the actual mechanics of ROM hacking, I'm on the low end of the seniority ladder for the time being.

Ah, sounding very cool. I've been looking forward to making a Chrono Trigger hack since probably the very first day i stumbled into the world of romhacking

If sometime in the future you are looking for contributers from abroad in the romhacking field, perhaps level design or a similar position, I'd be very interested in lending a hand.

Not necessarily. The changes made would have to be able to fit into the space of the original map. If it compresses to a larger size, it will get booted into unused space, which will almost certainly overwrite something that has been changed in the master ROM.

I am planning to add an import / export function for just this sort of thing to v2.0. In the meantime, you can sort of skirt around this issue my using the arbitrary compression tool. But you will need to know where exactly the item is in the changed ROM and where you want to put it in the master ROM. You would also need to change any associated pointers.

Alright. Would you like to try and make the Porre Square? I'll just send you the ROM if you want to. Instructions if you accept.

I'm finishing up the main town places; the Porre square overworld exit works now. When TF 2.0 comes out, I'm going to switch the ferry from Porre to Medina, and make sure to toggle Fiona's Forest on. Crono's going to have a small sidequest before the main meeting with the Porre agents at Guardia castle. So, new places so far in 1002 A.D.:

-1002 A.D.'s Manoria Cathedral

-Medina Ticket Office

-Vanguard Post

-Porre Square

They aren't finished; the Vanguard Post will be the most ambitious. I'm waiting to create anything other than the Square until TF 2.0 comes out with flexible mapsize and such. When the game begins, Crono will receive a Red Katana, Get-Well Card, and Pie; he has to run these three items to the Vanguard Post, the Medina Ferryman's wife, and some woman in Porre respectively. After this he'll enter Truce Inn (renamed Seabird Inn, as it appeared in the CT Prerelease), where I'm going to try and script a barfight. Then the actual stuff begins.

The Chrono Compendium's down until the 17th for revamping and performance upgrades. Until then, I've got a bunch of time to work on this. Is anyone really looking forward to it? There haven't been many takers for CT rom hacks besides Geiger (in the distant future, possibly) and the CT Expansion Project, so I'm hoping this can unite the forces. And thanks Gavin.

Ok how do you like to make the porre square like. The rom you are talking about is the chrono trigger rom. If so I have it already. Anyway what you are talking about the Porre Square do you mean Lean square.

There is a new area in 1002 A.D. called the Porre Square. It's {01D} Supervisor's Office in locations. I just need someone to map it, using the Leene Square tileset. I have to give you the CE ROM, as there isn't really another way in my power to transfer your progress to the project. So you'd have to do it on the CE ROM, and then send it back to me when you're done.

Oh yeah. Geiger, I'd like to simply copy an Object A and paste it over again in the Event code. Is there a way to accomplish this? Thus far, it's only allowing me to paste if the Object identification i'm pasting isn't already in the code.

Apply this to your unheareded, vanilla CT ROM:

http://www.herograw.com/ocremix/Zeality/CTCE/CE%2003-09-05.ips

Then make a copy of your ROM for patching purposes.

The map I need is {01D}, as stated before. It should be saved with the Leene's Square tileset; just make a small square. You don't have to insert any NPCs. After you're done, make an .ips with the unmodified file being the copy you made after you applied CE 030905 to your original CT, if you comprehend that. That way, damage will be minor if something messes up and gets out of alignment. So basically you have

CT ROM > apply the linked patch > make a copy (now you have CT ROM + backup) > edit CT ROM location {01D} to make a square > make a patch with the modified file being CT ROM and unmod being backup.

Let me know when you're done. Everyone else, feel free to browse the world. Couple things in Truce are different, and Porre has undergone most of its planned changes for now.

I think I've run into a problem in portrait editing. When I restrict a picture's palette to just 15 colors in Irfanview, it assumes black is transparent and unneeded as an actual color in 1-15.. However, Chrono Trigger's transparent color is gray, so it royally screws things up. This is my theory. I haven't been able to get a Marle pic working.

Sure, if you're up for it. If not, it's fine. This time though, make it down and dirty; there isn't a fair going on. Try to encircle it with that wall, and include at least a couple grassy patches. Don't forget that some walls are Layer 1 objects.
