So my father recently decided to upgrade his cell phone, and I got his old one. Well, it's quite nice... a Siemens SL56. Only I can't download ringtones. For some reason, I need wireless Internet access. But I don't have it. I'd check his account, but I can't do it online. And he already went to bed. AND I can't get their customer service until Monday. The worst part? When he first got the phone, he could download ringtones and graphics just fine. And now HIS phone has wireless Internet access too. Someone's got to fiddle with the account so I can do this. I was able to download stuff fine on the old phone, which used just plain ol' text messages... |

Actually, Metro PCS is the worst, but anyway... Do you have any Cingular stores near you? Maybe you can ask them what the hell is up with your phone. |

Ah, the joys of living in a small, hick town in the middle of nowhere. If I were to get a cell phone, to get one that would work where I live, it would either be Telus, which is ok with their "Pay As You Go" plan, or a satalite phone, which would cost way, way too much money. I might get a cell phone once I graduate, for the simple reason so that I can phone people if I need to. |

...satellite phone? I'm pretty much afraid to touch my cel unless I'm phoning my parents... pretty much everything else has stupid little hidden charges attached to it... (edited by Utilityman on 03-28-04 03:53 AM) |

Based on what I've heard of the US mobile system it doesn't work too good. Multiple standards, very poor coverage, no switching. In Sweden we have three carriers. All three have pretty much full coverage everywhere. You can switch operators at any time, and you have a RIGHT IN LAW to keep your phone number when switching. I'm such a tease |

Originally posted by Jesper Lol, that's about the same as we have here in Belgium, if you switch your provider then you're allowed to keep your old number + we've got way more than just 3 providers. |

We get to do that here too. Keep our old numbers if we switch to another company and we have heaps here. I've had my cell (got a new one three times) number and the same company since '98.

I still have to see an place with no cell phone coverage in Sweden. Heck even in the forests you have coverage. I have an Siemens phone. And you can (OMG!) talk with it! (i'm gonna keep it until it brokes, I don't use my cell phone so much anyway...) I have been annoyed at some things, like the peopel who is obessed with RINGTONES! BACKROUNDS! LOGGOS! OH YEAH SO NIFTY! |

Yeah, I stick to the same provider too. And I'm not into the big "RINGTONES FOR LIFE!" hype. I used to have Coolio - Gangsta paradise on my 3310 but on my new 2100 I got the standard Nokia tone.

No the most useless company is WWF Wild life one that stole the name from WWE even though they had it first making the whole thing messed up. Any ways that is messed up and you know when you call them they are going to charge you like 20$. UPN is useless too. Oh South Westrern Bell sucks trying to charge 100$ for home phone. |

Whe have four providers for cellphone networks here ... along with Vodafone, which is already very popular; it had overtaken the d-network some years ago In Germany many companies may feature good products, but bad customer service. Like if you phone their support hotline and the employee in the call center redirects you somewhere else And like Jesper said it for Sweden with keeping the old phone number after changing the provider, since the begin of 2003 you also can take your old number with you here I'm still using my 3310, I need it for phoning and messages, everything else is just useless crap for me (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 03-28-04 03:59 PM) |

Many European countries are so far ahead of the U.S. in terms of communications and other technologies, it's ridiculous. The most powerful country in the world, and one of the most technology-savvy, stuck several generations behind. American corporations are utterly worthless, I swear. If they'd just stop stuffing their execs' pockets and fighting with each other all the time, maybe technology could actually ADVANCE for a change. |
